The Garner Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1892. The first fire engine was a small, four-horsepower engine donated by Capt. John Fenton of the North Carolina Volunteers. In 1912, the department acquired its first truck and began using it for calls to other departments. In 1951, the Garner Volunteer Fire Department became a part of the North Carolina National Guard and was redesignated as Military Service Battalion No. 3 (Garner). The battalion served in Vietnam from 1971 to 1973 and from 1978 to 1980. In 1992, Garner Volunteer Fire Department became an official city fire department with City Council approval andreceived its own equipment including a new ladder truck and two engines. On July 1st, 2013, Garner's City Council passed an ordinance authorizing the purchase of 36 new Tactical Rescue Units (TRU) which will be used by the department for Search & Rescue missions as well as Incident Prevention/Prevention missions when needed within our city limits
Garner is a town in Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville–Buncombe Metropolitan Statistical Area. Garner was founded in 1881 by J.C. Garner and his wife Jennie on a tract of land that they purchased from David Herrell. The first post office was established in Garner in 1884. The townspeople built their first school in 1886 and their first courthouse in 1889. The local paper mill closed down around 1920, but Garner continued to produce newspapers until the late 1990s when it switched to online publishing. In 1997, Garner became home to its only professional wrestling match with the now defunct World Wrestling Federation (WWF). At the time, it was also one of only two towns within Buncombe County to have both a professional wrestling match and an event held at PNC Arena; the other being Second Chance Resort & Casino's main event for Wrestlemania XXVIII that year which took place at historical RCA Dome in New York City. Today there are no events scheduled for either venue although refereeing duties still take place during special events such as Thundercat's annual Christmas show or CiderFest Lightning while both venues host regular concerts throughout the year as well as family shows like Poppycock Puppet Show and Piglet's Paw Puppet Show each spring/summer Garner is located south of I-40 Exit 14A off exit 514 which leads into Asheville proper then east on I-40 until you reach downtown Ashevile before turning south onto US 27 Business Loop which becomes SR 161 then SR 19 leading into Garner Asheville has been populated since about 1200 BC when Menaneey moved here from where they were living near what is now Asheville Cherokee moved here after A Creek destroyed most of their corn crop so they developed cattle farming early along with some logging operations but those days are long gone

The history of Garner can be traced back to its founding days when John Garner made his home there with his wife Catherine (née Wilkinson) and their three children - Jameson (1777-1848), Sarah (1780-1853), and John Jr.(1800-1864). They were soon joined by other families who came to live in the town over time including those from nearby Hillsborough County as well as others who settled along I-95 or on Morehead Street near downtown Raleigh. In 1792, local farmer George Fenton erected a log cabin on what is now East Main Street in present day Garner. That same year saw another outpost established at what is now West End Avenue - this one led by Nicholas Myrick who purchased some land from Indians for $5 per acre upon their withdrawal from hostilities against Great Britain during Lord Cornwallis' Expedition into North Carolina in 1785 AGO! From these initial beginnings until 1867 when it became the county seat of Wake County under Governor Tryon’s jurisdiction – Garner enjoyed an uninterrupted period of growth characterized by increased commerce especially within agriculture; housing development followed later around Randolph Road between First Ave./East Main St./West End Ave., becoming more numerous both single family dwellings as well as attached properties comprised primarily of small farmsteads with outbuildings used for storage orchards or animal pens etc.; religious services were conducted outdoors either at barns or churches built either adjacent thereto or possibly off boundaries adjoining farms; various social events were staged such as picnics attended by schoolteachers providing athletic contests resulting often in prize money awarded to winners; post office service commenced operations on April 5th “year unknown” according to current records however earliest steamer known entering port here probably November 10th 1837 aboard HMS Bounty when Captain Cook visited our shores Duke & UNC students protest anti-Semitism
