The city’s history dates back to 1861 when General Beauregard founded Eden College in order to prepare young men for service in the Confederate army. In 1875, Eden was renamed Marine Barracks after Major General John Leland Hoke who served as Commandant of cadets at West Point. The barracks were first used as an armory before becoming a Marine barracks in 1930. In World War II, marines invaded Japanese-occupied Okinawa using amphibious assaults which resulted in more than 2,000 marines being killed and wounded during operations such as Operation Downfall that took place from April 1944 until May 1945. As part ofOperation Tarawa (1944), marines fought off repeated assault attempts by Japan’s Imperial Japanese Army from positions overlooking Wanaey Bay on July 3rd 1944 until they were relieved by United States forces two days later following successful naval bombardment which destroyed most of the facility including approximately 60% of all installations within range; deemed essential for Japan’sHideki Tojo regime because it provided coastal defense against land invasion by American forces led by Admiral Chester Nimitz who threatened Tokyo with air attack if he did not succeed in crushing Japan’s war chest. On September 9th 1944, United States Marines landed at El Toro Atoll hoping to establish airfields along Guam so that carrier aircraft could be used against Japan should she attempt an amphibious landing there; however this plan failed due to bad weather conditions which made Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW5) unable operate from Eniwetok Atoll despite numerous requests over several days leading up to the operation; Commander Nimitz decided instead use Task Force 88 (TF88) under Rear Admiral Halsey whose task force had arrived earlier en route from Ulithi Atoll with three carriers – Enterprise (CVN-65), Lexington (CVN-6) and Saratoga (CVN-68). TF88 initially consisted only of USS Yorktown(CVN#38) but her sister ship USS Louisiana(CVA#27)/USS Nashville(CVA#29)] joined TF88 shortly after Yorktown departedEniwetokAircraft Carriers Task Force 87 Detachment 1 - USS Lexington CVN 6 & USS Saratoga CVN 68 conducted strikes against targets near Jigjiga Harbor on Kwajalein Atoll on October 15th 1944.On December 7th 1944 hit a target at Yap Island off Kwajalein Atoll using EB4 bombers [the first USAAF bombing campaign against Japan]. Eden, North Carolina is a small town located in Henderson County, North Carolina. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. Eden is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area and it is also home to the Eden School District. Eden began as a small community on Cedar Creek and has since grown into a major tourist destination for people from all over the Southeast. The name "Eden" comes from two sources: one source says that it was derived from an early settler's description of a place where wild flowers grew, while another source suggests that the name derive from an early resident's children's names - Eve (from "Ede") and Demetria (from "Mecklenburg"). There are several theories about why the name Eden came to be in use in North Carolina. One theory suggests that it was chosen because of its location - within easy driving distance of both Charlotte and Mecklenburg counties. Another theory suggests that it was chosen because of its association with nature - many residents in Eden enjoy hunting and fishing opportunities near Cedar Creek. There are several things that make Eden such an attractive visitor destination. First, there are many beautiful natural areas to hunt or fish including Mountain Lakes Wilderness Preserve which contains more than 100 miles of undeveloped forest perfect for birdwatching or hiking; Second, the town offers much variety when it comes to food choices with restaurants offering everything from traditional Southern cuisine to modern international dishes; Third, visitors can explore various attractions located within walking or biking distance including The Cedar Springs Museum of Art which features local art history and artifacts dating back to 1807; fourth, there is plenty of shopping available both inside and outside the town center including items related to travel, camping, shopping etc.; Fifth, businesses located in Eden create jobs nearby providing access to goods and services not found elsewhere in Henderson County; Sixth, residents have helped contribute significantly to their community by creating committees such as chamber of commerce/public works/economic development which helps promote tourism throughout the town as well as hosting events such as car shows or music festivals; Seventh, locals often attend local events like farmer's market tastings or arts shows in orderto connect with other parts of their country

Eden, North Carolina is a small town located in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Eden was founded in 1853 by Rev. Alexander Henderson and his wife Catharine. The first settler in Eden was James Hogg who arrived in 1854. The original store was built on the present day corner of Main Street and First Avenue. In 1865, the Henderson family sold the business to Charles Bostic who operated it until 1881 when he passed away. In 1886, John Aiken bought the store from Bostic and continued to run it until 1924 when it was taken over by Ira Greenough who ran it until his death in 1951. Greenough’s widow kept the store until she sold it to Ernie Mears in 1978 which made Eden the only town in Rutherford County to be owned and operated by three different families consecutively. In 1954, Eden became part of the new Charlotte-Mecklenburg-Winston-Salem metropolitan area after being annexed by that city limits for economic reasons. After years of discussion between various representatives from Charlotte-Mecklenburg-Winston-Salem and Eden, a referendum was held on November 3rd, 1984 totalling 66% voting support to join Charlotte as an independent municipality with its own government and school board The annexation caused some resentment among residents of Eden because they felt their community had always been separate from Charlotte However, this feeling gradually dissipated as communication improved between both cities Since joining forces with one another, Eden has experienced significant growth including development of a new police department; increase in agricultural production; construction of new homes; expansion of recreational opportunities; and increased tourism while maintaining its identity as a separate town
