Eden, North Carolina is a small town in the eastern part of the state of North Carolina. It is located on Eden Creek within the Eden School District. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in what is now Eden was James Cockerill who came to the area in 1827. He established a log cabin and started a sawmill on his creek. In 1840, he erected a larger cabin and began to grow corn and other crops. By 1845, he had built an addition to his cabin that became known as the Cockerill Mansion which still stands today. In 1853, Colonel John Tatham established Fort Tatham in what is now Eden and opened it to settlers for trading purposes with Native Americans living near by. The fort served as an important military base until 1830 when it was closed due to Indian hostilities. In 1851, Captain Alexander Berry set up a store in what is now town center and named it after himself which continued until 1865 when it was taken over by Richardson’s Department Store. Captain Berry also founded the first school in what is now town center where he taught various subjects including arithmetic and surveying from 1797-1802 before becoming principal from 1802-1811). On October 1st, 1886, control of all public schools in Eden passed from Richardson’s Department Store to the new Eden School District based on recommendations made by Commissioners Hoyle and Witherspoon (Commissioners were appointed by Governor Tryon)). By 1918, there were only 10 students attending school while 5 teachers taught classes between 7:00am-3:30pm according to records kept at that time). In 1923-1924 there were 2 teachers employed full time with no students; however during 1925-1926 both teachers were let go because their school board refused funding for additional classrooms) In 1951 two girls came into town (from nearby Monroe),elementary aged Mrs Mary Everson (a teacher)and middle aged Mrs Betty Sampson (a nurse) they started teaching Bible class out of their homes which proved successful so they decided to open their own school which lasted until 1954 when it burned down due to lack of insurance money After World War II ended most people left for various reasons such as job opportunities or rural life although some families remained until around 1970when many residents moved out into Raleigh City limits . With few exceptions most people gradually died out or moved away leaving behind memories of this small farming community that once thrived but has since disappeared

Eden, North Carolina is a community located in Mitchell County, North Carolina. It is the largest town in Mitchell County and the county seat of Mitchell. The population was 12,977 at the 2010 census. Eden is part of the Durham metropolitan area. Eden was platted in 1872 by Laughlin & Co., a General Electric company. The town has been called "The Garden City" because of its many parks and green spaces. Eden's residents are known for their farmers' markets, art galleries, and antique shops. The local paper mill closed in 2001 but remains an important economic factor in the community. The first Methodist church built in Eden was dedicated on July 4, 1875. Today there are six churches serving the community with membership reaching over 1,000 people. In 1903 a school was established which continues to serve as today's main educational institution for students from Eden and surrounding communities. In 1911 when Eden becameMitchell County Seat it had a population of 586 people including 403 farmers who raised crops on their own land or leased it from other farmers In 1939 when World War II began the county population more than doubled to 1,868 with 153 military units stationed here

Eden, North Carolina is a small town in Rutherford County, North Carolina. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. Eden is located on the eastern edge of Rutherford County. It is bordered by Smithfield to the north, Gastonia to the east, and Iredell County to the south. The first settlers in what is now Eden were Englishmen who arrived in 1660. They named their new settlement after Mount Eden in England. In 1718, Captain John Swann made an unsuccessful attempt to establish a permanent colony at Eden because of difficulties encountered along the coast of North Carolina during his explorations of that region. In 1748, Sir Walter Raleigh founded a trading post at present-day Iredell County with land grants from King George II of Great Britain and Ireland. The post served as a base for Raleigh's expeditions into what are now Appalachian Mountains and southern Atlantic coastal regions during the late 18th century. In 1800, David Sloan decided to move his family from Maryland to Vanceboro (now Eden) because he believed it would be more difficult for white people to maintain racial equality than black people living near each other on large plantations where there was little freedom for blacks except through labor activities such as picking cotton or working on plantations. The Sloan family built two homes - one still standing today - on Meeting Street in downtown Eden and began operations as traders and merchants there until they moved away around 1870 when white folks finally started moving into this area too! In 1834 Rev Dr Wm Calkins organized local African American church services which continued until 1938! Reverend Calkins was probably born about 1795 in Monroeville (now Pittsboro) Alabama so his life spans covers quite some time! There have been many stories about him over time but we will get back to him later! Reverend Calkins must have been quite an accomplished preacher because he had several hymns published before he died in 1938!
