In 1957, the Bank of Eden closed its doors and the town's only restaurant choice became the First National Cafe which still operates today!

The Apple Blossom Festival is held in February in honor of the city's patron saint, Holy Name Cathedral (the "Blossom" festival began as an event to celebrate religious freedom).

Eden is a small town located in Wilkes County, North Carolina. The town was founded in 1868 by the Reverend John H. Eden and his family. The first settler, Williston C. White, arrived in 1869. Eden was named after the biblical Garden of Eden. The Adam-and- Eve story is one of the most well known stories in Christianity and it is often used as a model for salvation. In 1865, Eden had a population of only seventy five people. By 1890, the population had grown to over two thousand people. In 1924, Eden became part of the larger city of Greensboro and has since been surrounded by its own ZIP code that includes much of what now makes up Eden Village Shopping Center and portions of Greenville Township (now Grovetown). The early years were difficult for Eden because it was an unincorporated community located on high ground near present day Hillsborough County line with no access to water or land resources other than what could be hunted or gathered raw materials from surrounding valleysides. However, Rev John H’s perseverance paid off as within 5 years he had built a small farmstead on what are now Main Street and Church Road with 3 children living there: John H., Nancy J., & Alice M.. After about 10 years he die suddenly at age 82 leaving behind his 4 Sons: William P., Addison W., Reuben D., & Josephine E.(Daughter) They all started their own families and developed this wonderful little community into one we know today! Today you can still find many descendants from that original pioneer family including some who live in our very active village just outside Greensboro called “Eden”! Many businesses have been established here such as Giltner’s Nursery which provides excellent developmental opportunities for kids starting at 6 mos old until they reach school age; Dry Goods Bakery where groceries are always available; Stoneware Antiques which sells period pieces/household items like clothing dolls made right during prohibition days etc.; Pioneer Cemetery which contains unmarked graves dating back to when this area was part of Cherokee Nation; shopkeepers like myself who have worked here unchanged for decades….. We have so much history here we could write volumes about it but instead I will just encourage everyone to visit us sometime and see all that we have going on!
