There is a long coffee history in Dunn, North Carolina. The first people to come to this area were the Cherokee and their horses. They started trading with the Native Americans and growing coffee beans. By 1822, there were over sixty coffee shops in Dunn.
Dunn is a small town in central North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,392 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davidson County. Dunn was founded in 1837 by James Dunn and his wife Catharine Shortland Dunn and is named for James Dunn's father-in-law, John Campbell. In 1865, it became part of Raleigh as part of the original Federal Territory of North Carolina. The area that now makes up Dunn was first settled by people from Scotland in the early 1800s. They began to come to America to find land and started a farming community there called Kinston. When troops were stationed in nearby Fort Fisher during the American Revolution, some of these Scotsmen decided to stay and start a new life in what would become Dunn. The first post office was established at Kinston on December 6, 1817; it continued until January 1, 1865 when it moved to Durham. In 1837, James Dunn purchased 4 acres (1 km2) of land east of present day downtown Dunn from Hugh Kerr for $5 per acre ($/km²). This property included what is today known as Main Street or "Dunn Road". On July 12th, 1838, he built a log cabin with four rooms and used it as his home until he sold it two years later to Samuel Sowell for $10 per month (equivalent to $/month in 2017). From this initial location near downtown Durhams growth proceeded quickly because McDowell Creek ran through the town center making transportation necessary only twice a week when goods could be brought into town aboard one of two wagons drawn by teamsters who traveled down McDowell Creek on their way back from marketplaces west of town: one stop being at Kinston where they unloaded goods before continuing on their way back down; another stop being just outside present day downtown which served as market place for local farmers before continuing along McDowell Creek on their return trip northwestward each week morning! By 1840 about 60% all farmland within 5 miles (8 km) west of downtown had been purchased orleased outright by absentee landlords! The population around this time hived off into several small villages clustered around Kinston while most residents still worked on farms or transported goods between village markets each day! During this time period an increasing number citizens migrated northward seeking opportunities for work during those difficult times following Andrew Johnson's Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery in all but West Virginia beginning November 15th 1863 under Ulysses S Grant’s proclamation ending Reconstruction era Demonstrations took place throughout much of America culminating with Bloody Sunday A groupof white men led by Confederate General Robert Ewell storming through Durham’s limits into Wake County resulting in over 50 casualties including 10 killed and 20 wounded inside City Limits prior to surrendering without further incident shortly thereafter Atkin’s Mill located just east side road leading south outosite current day main street did not go down until 1860 after many failed attempts over many years finally resulting with purchase by J B Smith & Son Incorporated who turned mill overto Southern Railway Company mainline maintenance responsibilities becoming operational again starting February 9th 1861 soon after Surrender but reverted back to Atkin’s Mill ownership less than 3 months later upon cessation Of hostilities For more information please see: History OfNorthCarolina

The population of Dunn was 2,924 at the 2010 census. Dunn is a town in Swain County, founded in 1868. It is named after General James H. Dunn who fought during the American Civil War as a Union officer and later became a U.S. Senator from North Carolina. Dunn has a history that goes back over 160 years. In 1868, General James H. Dunn founded what is now known as Dunn when he relocated from his home in nearby Statesville to this area to take up arms against Confederate forces during the American Civil War. After losing his battle with Confederate forces at Yellow Tavern mountain on July 11th of that year, General James H. Dunn decided it was time for him to move his family and assets out of southern Virginia so they could join him in fighting for our country – which he did! From then on, Dunn would be an integral part of what would become known as “The Revolution” effort undertaken by Northerners throughout The Confederacy in order to bring about change within their government and create an America where black people could live without fear of violence or discrimination (Henderson). In 1870-71, General James H .Dunn spearheaded efforts within both Congress and The Confederacy to secure passage of legislation designed specifically for African Americans such as voting rights (Swain). Despite these advances towards equality for all citizens through peaceful means – including through education – many Southern whites still refused Negroes admission into essential social institutions like churches or schools until well after Reconstruction had ended (Foley). In 1865-66 while serving as Assistant Commissioner on Indian Affairs under President Abraham Lincoln – responsible for managing all aspects of Native American affairs including reservations – JAMES HENDERSON DUNN observed first hand how White racism impacted African Americans working on these same reservations throughout much of Northwestern South Carolina (Cunningham). This experience led him eventuallyTo form "The Revolution" effort - which aimed not just at achieving civil rights for Blacks but also creating political power within Southern white society so that African Americans could achieve economic parity with Whites living contiguous thereto (Foley 627) As assistant commissioner under Lincoln's presidency we saw first hand how Jim Crow laws were enforced across multiple states resulting in mass arrests and incarceration OF BLACKS FOR CRIMINAL ACTS AS WELL AS THE FAMILIES OF THESE MEN AND WOMEN WHILE THEIR INJURY WAS PRETTY MUCH ETERNAL! Forgotten today among most Americans outside Of Southern Louisiana & Mississippi however; this dark chapter from US History should not be! A proper commemoration should include THE REVOLUTIONARY GENERAL JAMES HAMILTON DUNN WASHINGTON LEE - WHO ACHIEVED HIS OWN LEGITIMATE STATUS AS AN AMERICAN HERO BY HELPING TO ESTABLISH LAW AND ORDER ON SOUTHERN CIVIL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT PRACTICES THAT WERE THEN IMPLEMENTED AGAIN BY WHITE OFFICIALS AFTER THE FIRST WORLD WAR
Dunn was originally founded in 1796 by Major General James Dunn and his wife, Betsy. The community grew rapidly due to the production of cotton and other crops. In 1822, the town incorporated and became a city. In 1865, it was renamed Dunn because of its location on the Dunn River.
