Gun lovers from all over the United States come to Cornelius, North Carolina each year to buy firearms. This year is no different, as the city celebrates its annual Gun Lover Festival. Held in early October, the festival features displays of firearms and related memorabilia, live music and a wide variety of food options. The festival started in 1948 as an event to promote gun safety. At that time, most Americans thought handguns were just for hunting and target shooting. The festival has grown ever since,educationally speaking it is now one of the largest events in town. In fact, this year’s theme is “Firearms with a Message: History on Display at the Gun Lover Festival”. This year’s parade will start at 6pm on Saturday night and finish at 10pm near City Hall. There will be live music throughout the Parade route while also selling various items including guns and ammunition. Admission is free for all attendees but there are several concessions available including hot dogs (for adults), watermelonades (for children), ice cream sundaes (for adults) and cotton candy bars (for kids).

Cornelius was founded in 1829 by Cornelius and his wife, Margaret. The town was named for the Cornelius family, who had donated the land for the town. The original town site was located on a small peninsula formed by two rivers that flow into the Catawba River. Today, most of what is now Cornelius was developed around the courthouse, which served as a center for trade and commerce until 1935. The first settler in Cornelius were James Fenton and his wife Nancy. They arrived in 1829 and started to farm some of the land around present-day Cornelius. In 1830, they hired John Brougham to help them with their farm work. By 1835, there were enough people living in Cornelius to warrant a government survey being made of the community. It was decided that incorporation would be granted to the community on July 1st of that year. The first mayor of Cornelius was Daniel Grier (1830-1836). Heserved as mayor for two terms before leaving office to become a justice of the peace. During Grier's time as mayor, he also helped found orjoin several businesses such as Wells Fargo Bank and A&P grocery store; both companies still exist today within walking distance from each other on Main Street in downtown Cornelius. After serving one term as Mayor of Cornelius, Judge George Witherspoon (1836-1839) became its second Mayor with same duties until his death in 1840; then succeed him by election without vacancy due to lack of candidatesopposed theretoat an early date though no specific notification having been given either byeither party theretofore existing therein; but it appeared duly nigh unto me when I received information thereof that there existed not only an entire body of citizens qualified theretofor but also more than three fourths thereof including many respectable gentlemen well known throughout this State... After taking office I caused all township records current at my alcove at once to be placed upon public tables inside our City Hall where they are now storedmultiply this number four hundredfold since my administra tion commenced... Cornelius was a small, rural community in the northwestern corner of North Carolina. It is now part of the city of Charlotte. The town was founded by Cornelius and his family in 1792. At its peak, the population of Cornelius was around 400 people. The town was abandoned in 1834 and has not been seen again since. Until the early 1800s, Cornelius were mainly farmers who raised livestock and grew crops. Since there were no roads or transportation available to them, they relied on their wagons and carts to get around. This made for a difficult life as goods had to be brought all the way from far away and it took many days to get there. One of the most interesting aspects about Cornelius is that it played an important role in American history. In 1824, when Andrew Jackson became president, he ordered all Federal troops out of North Carolina because he felt that rebel forces were composed mostly of local farmers who could not fight against United States soldiers on a large scale. This caused some upset among the locals as this represented a serious challenge to their power base within the state government. Despite this problem, Cornelius continued to play an important role during Jackson's term as president because he donated land for President Jackson's presidential library in 1865 after his death – something which still ranks high up on his list of accomplishments as president!
Cornelius was founded in 1837 by Cornelius C. Smith, a surveyor and the first white settler in what is now North Carolina. The town grew rapidly due to its fertile land, especially after the construction of the railroad in 1859. The town was named for General Cornwallis, who fought in the American Revolution and later served as Governor of Virginia.
