The post-war years saw a downturn for the community; however, things started to turnaround after Hurricane Floyd struck in 2001. Over two hundred businesses reopened and more than $100 million worth of damage was caused by Floyd! Nowadays, Cornelius is an active community that supports local businesses and celebrates its history every year during Festival week!
