It is difficult to know when the first marine gift was given to Concord, North Carolina. However, there are several references to maritime gifts in the local history books. In 1851, a Commodore John A. Macon sent a shipment of military supplies and marines to Concord under the command of Major General Nathaniel P. Banks. The marines were soon used for protection purposes against Seminole Indians. In 1865, Commodore John D. Stockton gave $1,000 for the benefit of Concord Presbyterian Church. This donation helped finance repairs and renovations at the church which occurred from 1865-1868. Theodore Roosevelt presented a large silver service dish with an inscription reading "For Concord Presbyterian Church" in 1901 during his presidency as part of his annual Christmas present to Americans Overseas (POTUS). The dish was designed by Simeon Solomon Stern and is one of only four such items everto be given as a marine gift from America's Commander in Chief. In 1903, Reverend Caryl Churchill donated two Tiffany glassvessels filled with chrysolite Specimens (amethyst) valued at $8,500 each to Concord Methodist Episcopal Church in honor of their president Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday that year. These vessels were almost certainly used for services at that church after being brought over from New York City on December 5th 1903 by Charles Wistar Hayward who had recently become minister thereupon serving until 1912 when he resigned due to health reasons

The history of marine gifts in Concord, North Carolina goes back centuries. In 1701, the Dutch Overseas Company established a trading post in what is now Concord. The company's first store was built on the site of present-day First Presbyterian Church. Over time, other Dutch companies Ernest Beekman and John Drysdale joined the company and merged with it, until it became known as Jansen & Sons Ltd. In 1853, Colonel James Fayette Jackson donated land to Concord for a public library. The Library Board soon decided that a library would be an excellent way to improve education in the town. They constructed the first wing of the present-day building on Congress Street in 1859. The second wing was added in 1865 and still stands today. When American troops liberated Concord from Japanese occupation during World War II, they brought many items with them including books and manuscripts of local history and culture. Many of these objects are now on display at the John Fenton Library annex located on High Street within walking distance of all three libraries in Concord – one for each century!
Concord, North Carolina is a small town located in Carteret County, North Carolina. The population was 1,967 at the 2010 census. Concord is home to the Concord Christian School and Concord Baptist Church. The first permanent settler in what is now Concord was Captain John Smith on December 15, 1778. At that time the area included modern-day Durham and Chapel Hill counties. In 1814, when Carteret County was created from parts of Wake and Rutherford Counties, Concord became part of that new county. In 1861, when Confederate General Robert Ewell stormed through town during his attempt to flee northward after unsuccessfully besieging Raleigh (and putting out a call for volunteers), many people fled into the woods behind town for cover. A few days later Union General Ulysses S Grant arrived in town with orders to pull back all forces until further notice—the Confederates had expected him to come here instead. When he found out about this deceit, Grant ordered his troops to leave without firing a shot; as they left Concord residents came out onto the streets and set fire to some of their own homes in retribution. In 1865, after Confederate General Pte James Longstreet's army surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia, most of what is now eastern Carteret County fell within Union hands; however much of rural northwestern Carteret County still remained under Confederate control until April 1865 when it too surrendered unconditionally by order of President Abraham Lincoln due to lack of resources available consistent with its status as an unincorporated territory. On May 5th 1865 local militia meeting voted unanimously not to secede from the United States because they were tired of living under two masters (Confederate and Yankee). The citizens then formed a provisional government known as "The Provisional Government." On July 4th 1865 delegates from both factions met at Elmira Springs Hotel near Raleigh where they subscribed themselves "to form a new Confederacy" which would include all present withinCarteretCountyexceptforConcord.(This convention never took place) On October 12th 1865 delegates from both factions met again at Wilmington Female SeminarynearWakefieldetoacknowledgethattheywererejoiningthe Confederacyunderthe name "North Carolina Confederate Association." This organization continued functioning until January 6th 1866 when it disbanded because no one could agree on rules or governance.) Concord, North Carolina is a town in western Johnston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,837 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Johnston County. Concord is one of the oldest towns in north Carolina and was founded in 1795 by General James Moore as a small trading post on the Musgrove River. The first store and courthouse were built in 1802. In 1827 Concord became part of Henderson County and later Buncombe County before becoming Johnston County's capital in 1901. The town has been called "the most important center for learning in eastern North Carolina" and was home to the East Tennessee College of Technology from 1923 until its closure in 1997. In 2000, Concord was designated a National Historic Landmark for its significance as an educational center during America'senoissance period.
