On October 21, 1912 an individual named Harry Fenton opened fire on four men who were holed up inside the Masonic Lodge located on Euclid Avenue. There were no injuries reported as a result of this shooting but it did set off a national firearms prohibition law known as the National Firearms Act which went into effect on January 14, 1934.

Clemmons is a town in Lowndes County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area. The first Clemmons settlement was established in 1811 when James Clemmons and his family came from Scotland to settle in what is now Lowndes County. James Clemmons was one of the original seven commissioners who voted on the charter for Charlotte, North Carolina. He also served as a delegate to the State Constitutional Convention of 1865. In 1881, John Hance founded Jardine & Hance Electric Light and Power Company with heavy investments from American Electric Power Company head-man Samuel Jardine. In 1889, Jardine became president of American companies controlled by General Electric Co-founder Edward Condon and continued to control Clemmons until his death in 1921. In 1892, Alice Gentry married William Ewing who had come to Clemmons from Raleigh several years earlier after leaving his job as superintendent of public schools for Wake County. The pair started a small grocery store on Main Street that quickly became successful and soon moved into larger quarters on Church Street across from the high school where they ran an all-day program for local children which still exists today called "Ewing's Grocery". Mrs Gentry died in 1934 but her husband continued operations until his death in 1949; he bequeathed $10 million to UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine which has since been endowed with over $500 million in endowed funds making it one of America's leading medical universities . shortly after World War II ended there was a large influx of African Americans into rural counties such as Lowndes and this led to many changes including name change (Clemson became Clermont) while most white residents kept their homes/settings unchanged during this time period
