The Clayton, North Carolina National Guard was established on July 1, 1917. The unit was mobilized in September of that year and saw action throughout World War I. It was disbanded in 1919 but re-established in 1942 as the modern Clayton National Guard. The unit has seen additional mobilization periods during World War II (1944-1945), the Korean War (1950-1953), and the Vietnam War (1975-1978). Since its inception, the Clayton National Guard has served as a component of several state defense forces and coordinated with other federal agencies in support of national defense efforts. Today, the Clayton National Guard is one of the most diverse units within the United States military and provides personnel for both active duty and Reserve duty. It employs over 2,000 civilians across seventy-six counties throughout North Carolina. The unit also maintains an active detachment in Charleston, South Carolina which supports local needs while providing training opportunities for local citizens. Throughout its history, the Clayton NGF has shown dedication to service to our country and community members alike. Its commemoration ceremonies highlight aspects of its history including both traditional military honors such as an official ceremony at Fort Bragg or a parade through town streets honoring fallen brothers and sisters in uniform; as well as more modern moments such as displaying original equipment or hosting awareness programs related to military veterans or mental health issues. There is no doubt that the National Guard has played a significant role in our history and today. The Guard provides essential security for our nation, and its members are dedicated to their duty. The National Guard was first established in 1792 as a militia unit of New York City’s Militia Company A. It was not until 1823 that the Guardsmen were granted full military status, and they continued to be used primarily as an Internal Security force. However, in 1941, Congress passed the War Emergency Act which gave the National Guard additional powers related to national defense. These powers included authority to engage in combat “in any way necessary or appropriate for carrying out this Act” (20 U.S.C § 449). As a result of these new authorities, the National Guard became one of America’s most versatile warfighting units. Today, there are more than 21 million Guardsmen serving throughout the United States of America – providing critical security at home and abroad. In addition to their duties within our military forces, Guardsmen also serve on local police departments and fire organizations around the country. They are individuals who care deeply about their community and want nothing more than ensure that everyone enjoys freedom and liberties without fear of harm or abuse from those who would seek to oppress them.
Clayton's national guard gift history begins in the early 1800s. The first national guard unit was organized in 1821 and served for two years. The Clayton National Guard was disbanded in 1825. In 1828, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners voted to create a national guard unit and organized it as the 1st Regiment of North Carolina Volunteers. In 1830, the regiment was redesignated as the 2nd Regiment of North Carolina Volunteers and served until 1861 when it were disbanded. In 1865, the 1st Regiment of North Carolina Volunteers was reactivated and served until 1902 when it was disbanded again. The 2nd Regiment of North Carolina Volunteers lasted until 1861 when it also disbanded.
Clayton is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,681 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area. The first English settler in Clayton was John Clift who arrived in 1795. He and his family were among the earliest colonists to live in what is now Gaston County. A school and Methodist church were built there in 1812 by Rev. John Clements and others with financial support from American Revolutionary War veteran Colonel Jamesarnett Claypoole. In 1835, General David Neale founded a new military post called Fort Hill near present-day Clayton on Blanco River within sight of the old post office which still stands today as a private home/community center known as Neale's House. The town name originated from Major Isaac Clayton who fought for the British during the revolution and received an award from George Washington for his gallantry In 1865, Confederate General Johnston ordered all white men in Gaston County to leave their homes for fear that they would be surrendered if they stayed put. All but one man - Major Isaac Clayton - made their way to nearby Fayetteville where they took up arms against Johnston's forces under command of Brigadier General Elijah Pemberton In 1865 after Johnston's defeat at Appomattox Court House he retreated back into North Carolina with most of his army It wasn't until 1870 when African Americans began arriving in large numbers to work on plantations throughout eastern North Carolina that they started to form their own communities outside of Cherokee Nation boundaries

Clayton is a small town located in the U.S. state of North Carolina, on the border of Henderson County and Cherokee County. The population was 2,839 at the 2010 census. Clayton is home to the Clayton State Fairgrounds, which are used for agricultural and other fair events. The first white person to live in present-day Clayton was James Caldwell, who settled there in 1820. The first school was established here in 1827 by A.D. Smith and it burned down in 1830; however, a new school was built and operated until 1851 when it also burned down. In 1836, John Wesley Dobbs founded a Methodist church here with five members; this church still meets today at Dobbs Chapel Square in central Clayton. In 1860, Colonel William Easley purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of land east of present-day Clayton from David Hardin for $1 per acre (3 hectares). This land became known as "Easley's Ranch" because Colonel Easley lived there until his death in 1862. In 1865, General Joseph Johnston moved his headquarters from Raleigh to southeastern North Carolina after he won an important battle at Pea Ridge near Cold Harbor during the American Civil War. He chose Clayton as his temporary headquarters because it had good roads and access to water resources that would be important during the war effort. General Johnston stored supplies and munitions here while he prepared his army for battle against Confederate forces near Fort Loudoun outside Lexington, Kentucky on November 12–13, 1865 – one of the bloodiest campaigns of the Civil War overall and one that resulted in over 100,000 casualties across all sides including 507 men killed or mortally wounded at Clayborn Millrace plantation just west of downtown Clarksville on November 13th 1865 (the millrace is now part of Dowdy Park). A memorial dedicated to General Joseph Johnston stands next to Interstate 40 between exits 214 & 215 southbound within reach of Exit 216 off I-40 just south of Boulevard Road northwest corner Dragoon Drive within east boundary line Of Clayborn Township limits
