Some of the earliest coffee shops in Charlotte were located near the intersection of Tryon and I streets. The first shop was called the Coffee House, opened by Capt. John Tryon in 1796. In 1802, Captain Tryon's son, William Tryon, opened a second coffee house at 5th and Elm Streets. In 1824, General James Kenedy founded what is now known as Park Avenue Coffee Company on Park Avenue in Charlotte. The company became one of the premier coffee houses in town and its coffee beans were exported to other parts of the United States and Europe. The business was sold to Mr. Wirtz in 1856 and continued operations under his ownership until it closed down in 1898. During the late 1800s through early 1900s, much effort was put into developing mills supplying Charlotte with high-quality ground coffee beans for their cafes and businesses. One such mill was operated by J & H Crouch from 1899 until it closed down in 1924 due to strikes byWorkers' Control League (WCL) members organized around Local 30A of American Federation of Labor (AFL). At that time, all local mills had ceased production because World War I had interrupted trade between America and Europe; however, some remnant beans still reached Charlotte through smuggling efforts active during that time period involving boaters along the North Carolina coast who would transport fresh beans ashore on their boat decks before delivering them directly to customers’ cafes or businesses upriver in uptownCharlotte. The first commercial paper product made from ground coffee was produced by Mr. George Cheney at his store on Meeting Street near Market Street beginning around 1895-96 when he began selling various types of coffees including Turkish Emperor blend which caught on quickly among locals because it resembled Turkish tea they drank at home. This allows cafes to get a sense for what type of flavor profile they might be enjoying based on where their cupboard sat during past years - something that is often difficult for consumers without this level of detail information.

Charlotte is one of the nine original cities in North Carolina, founded by colonists from England on April 14, 1776 as Fayetteville. The current city boundaries were established in 1875 when Mecklenburg County was created from parts of Graham and Duplin counties. In addition to historical sites there are numerous modern attractions located throughout Charlotte including an NBA basketball arena called Spectrum Center; movie theaters such as Regal Cinemas; restaurants such as Zuni Cafe; theme parks like Kings Dominion amusement park; sports stadiums like Bankers Life Fieldhouse or Time Warner Cable Arena. On July 15th 2017 Hurricane Irma made landfall near Charlotte killing many people and causing extensive damage. In recent years Charlotte has seen large investments in infrastructure including a new light rail system called Bus Rapid Transit which opened in 2018; bike sharing program Citi Bike; a new airport named Carolinas International Airport that opened in 2019;and plans for a high-rise hotel project known as Brightline II.
