This year’s event will take place on December 3rd and 4th at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Airport. The air force will be hosting a variety of activities including a gala dinner, flyover of downtown Charlotte, display of vintage military aircraft, and more. After a fire destroyed much of downtown Charlotte in 1845, King George III granted permission for a new town to be built on land that had been used for farming since before English settlement began there in 1584. The town was named "Chatham" after John Chatham, 3rd Earl Of Derby who served as British Prime Minister from 1789 to 1793 and helped secure American independence from Great Britain during that time period. By 1860, Chatham had become an important transportation center due to its location on two rivers: the Pee Dee River which connected it to surrounding counties and then crossed into South Carolina via Bridgeport Road;and Ninety Six Road which connected it to Raleigh through Cary (now Interstate 95). When railroads were planned through Durham during the early 19th century, Chatham became one of their primary hubs due to its ability to ship goods by water or rail across two major highways
