Cary is a city in North Carolina, United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest town in North Carolina and one of the most rural areas. Cary's nickname "The Garden City" comes from its many green spaces, such as Cary Park and Golden Triangle Park. Cary was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1785 as part of what would become known as the Tobacco Road region between Raleigh and Charlotte. The Irish were among the first groups to arrive after Cherokee Indian attacks on their homes near Salisbury in 1819 led to a large influx of Irish people into northeast North Carolina. By 1830, Cary had incorporation as a town. In 1924, it became an independent city with its own government, mayor, and school board. In recent years, various businesses have moved into downtown Carytown including Sears Holdings Corporation (headquartered there since 1985), KFC (opened its first restaurant there in 1984), Starbucks Coffee Company (opened its first store there in 1997), Tyson Foods Inc.'s Tyson Foods Research & Development Center (based there since1995), Carrabba’s Italian Grill (founded here by Frank Carrabba Jr., now head chef for Applebee’s restaurants throughout East Coast Canada) and Lookout Restaurant Supply Co., which opened its first Cary location in 2006; all but one are now closed or relocated elsewhere within downtown Carytown limits

Cary is a town in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,848 at the 2010 census. Cary is part of the Durham–Chapel Hill metropolitan area and it is the county seat of Durham County. Cary was founded in 1796 as a small frontier settlement on Horry River by Revolutionary War veteran Captain James Johnston and his wife Hannah Johnston. The townsite had been named for John Cary, 2nd Earl of Salisbury who had commanded British forces during the Cherokee Expedition of 1794-95. The town's first store was established in 1800 by Captain Johnston's brother-in-law, Nathaniel Childers and operated until 1802 when it was taken over by Drury and Price stores. In 1807, Thomas Moultrie (the son of Lieutenant Colonel John Moultrie) opened a grocery store at what is now downtown Cary. In 1810, Michael Barrett donated land to the town for a courthouse square which became known as "Barrett Square." In 1830, Rev. Ebenezer Benton organized the Presbyterian Church in Cary which soon became one of the largest churches in North Carolina with several branches throughout the surrounding counties. Reverend Benton also built many homes in downtown Cary including one that still stands today called "Benton House." In 1835 local resident Abram Long donated land to build what would become State Capitol building located between Second Street south and First Street east just north of present day College Avenue NW which served as North Carolina's state capital from 1870 until 1913 when Raleigh replaced it due to economic reasons. The early 20th century saw some significant changes to Cary with construction beginning on Interstate 85 connecting Chapel Hill with Charlotte along with other development such as shopping malls throughout Durham County followed by high school completion starting around 1965 making Cary an attractive place to live and work offering easy access to all that Chapel Hill had to offer especially during days when Interstate 85 wasn't operational orexistent making job opportunities scarce however this has since changed with newer development popping up nearby that offer greater possibilities for career growth however there are still areas where much progress has yet to be made specifically within business circles where many feel being successful means catered towards an already wealthy elite
