The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland offers a unique and rigorous program for cadets to become officers of the navy. The academy provides an excellent education for naval officers, but it is also home to the USS Constitution Museum which features artifacts from American history from the Revolutionary War through World War II. In Burlington, North Carolina, the USS Constitution Museum is one of only a fewUSS Constitution Museum locations in the United States. The museum was founded in 1906 as part of the Navy Department’s gift to Burlington. It is now located at 5201 N Tryon St., just south of downtown Burlington. Navy ships have played an important role in American history since they were first built more than two centuries ago. The USS Constitution was one of America’s first warships and she served with distinction during both world wars. In 2006, she was renamed after Rear Admiral John Halsey “Bulldog” Connally who had been Commandant of Marines at San Diego State University where he helped create Marine Corps infantry units during World War II. As part of her namesake designation, she flew the flag on Operation Neptune Spear off Okinawa while other marines fought against Japan in that war (see sidebar). She also flew flags at Iwo Jima and Samar before eventually being sunk by Japanese gunfire off Korea on July 8, 1945 (see sidebar). In addition to her role as a maritime icon, USS Constitution Museum has also been influential in local history. She was responsible for starting Burlington’s first business district and helping to spur development along Tryon Street between Court and Washington Streets (now First National Bank plaza). Additionally, she played a critical role in getting money into Burlington so that it could build its first schoolhouse and establish itself as a center for learning about naval aviation (now Veterans Memorial Park). During World War II she served as flagship ship for Commander-in-Chief U S Fleet Western Pacific Area; this region covered all areas from Japan westward to Singapore and Sumatra . Her visit here on December 7th 1947 inauguratedOperation Landfall which aimed not onlyto detect enemy submarines but alsoto bomb major transportation centers such as Hiroshima

Burlington, North Carolina is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina and the county seat of Catawba County. The population was 508 at the 2010 census, down from 716 at the 2000 census. Burlington is located on the Yadkin River in central South Carolina and is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area. It has been called "the most bicycle-friendly city in America" by Forbes magazine, and has been ranked as one of America's best places to live by Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine. The first settlement in what became Burlington was made on May 6, 1772 by John Alexander Johnston and his brother-in-law James Robertson from Scotland. The town was named for Lord Burlington, 3rd Earl of Ayr who had sponsored their migration across the ocean. In 1837, Burlington became a city under law passed by General Robert Ewell during the American Civil War; it was reincorporated as Catawba County on November 14, 1837. On October 15, 1861, Confederate Brigadier General Thomas Jepson ordered all Union soldiers out of Catawba County so that he could take over command from Confederate Major General Jubal Early in nearby Kinston. As result of this orderlessness on Jepson's part and because Catawba County lacked military installations (save for Fort Donelson), much damage occurred before troops were able to arrive to restore order; between October 15 and November 3 inclusive there were 10 murders including six women and four children occurring within three blocks radius around downtown Burlington In 1871–72 construction began on what would become known as Queen's Park which included City Hall (later renamed State Capitol) as well as a market square with buildings used for various government functions including courtsmartial facilities until 1907 when they were moved to Independence Square northward into what is now Fourth Street NE . The park took its name from then-Queen Victoria who visited Burlington two years earlier while still reigning monarch of Canada On July 1st 1888 an actwas passed giving primary voting rights to women citizens over men residents; this gave rise to what are now known as Women’s Rights Caucus caucuses inside City Hall later becomingWomen’s Lib Dem caucus currently meeting upstairs near Café Carlyle where I am sitting today! In 1912 Mayor Richardson secured annexation by Charlotte making Burlington an official suburb . On December 2nd 1916 Ulysses S Grant died at Sandersville plantation just outside town boundaries while serving President United States – his body lay buried there until 1924 when his remains were reburied east of town limits adjacent to Pleasant View Cemetery In 1946 voters approved desegregation plans calling for black people living within white limits but without full access thereto so long as they acquiesced thereto; accordingly white people living within black limits continue to do so up until 2001 when all single family homes within city Limits reverted back back into white hands pending redevelopment which never happened due lack or interest amongst developers

In 1935 Burlington merged with Charlotte to form one of the most populous cities in America. Since then Burlington has undergone several facelifts and gentrification efforts, but its economy remains weak. Despite these challenges, Burlington is an important cultural center within North Carolina and has played an important role in the development of both the state capital and its major metropolitan areas.
