Hinton bought the business and began to roast for internal consumption only. In 1865, Mr. Hinton's son James bought out Capt. Suggs' share and continued the family business until it merged with two other coffee businesses to form Peet's Coffee in 1976. Since then, Peet's Coffee has been one of the most noted names in high quality coffee history, serving as an ambassador for sustainable coffee production throughout the world.
