Albemarle is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina, located on the Hiwassee River southeast of Raleigh. The population was 14,715 at the 2010 census. Albemarle is part of the Chapel Hill–Carrboro– Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Albemarle County were hunters and gatherers who traveled through the area during seasonally-driven migrations over 10,000 years ago. In 1825, James Fenton established one of the first white settlements in present-day North Carolina when he built a cabin on Cane Creek near modern day downtown Albemarle. In 1827, Cherokee Indian Chief John Ross made an attack against a small force of whites led by Captain Alexander McDowell that resulted in three deaths and many injuries; this event would later be known as "The Battle Of Thorne". Afterward, Governor Tryon ordered all Native Americans living within 1 mile (1 km) of his headquarters to leave for fear they might launch similar attacks against future civilian targets. This order effectively ended any European contact with the area for more than 50 years. A post office was established at Albemarle in 1830, and remained operational until it was discontinued in 1907 due to advances in telegraphy and other technological advancements. One major event that occurred during its early days was when General Andrew Jackson's forces invadedNorth Carolina during The War Between The States; after successfully besieging Alamance County for several weeks, they withdrew across the river into South Carolina without damage or loss to their munitions cache or campsites along the way. It wasn't until 1861 when Confederate General Jubal Early marched throughthe town while campaigning along I-95; this event caused much chaos as military supplies and men traveling through town had no idea where they were or what store they should go into since there were no roads leading out from town proper! Later that year however, Union soldiers burned down most ofFenton's cabin following an engagement outside town limits; though this did little to dampen local sentiment towards Confederates at that time given how popular Fenton had become among locals for his charitable donations throughoutthe war effort! As time passed however,and public opinion slowly shifted back towards Union lines amidst increasing evidence pointing towards Confederate complicity with slave trading/aboriginal violence etc., Fenton's cabin finally re-opened amd continued operating until 1978 despite being regularly vandalized by both local residents & visiting Generals alike!

Later that year, Roosevelt presented Japan's Prime Minister Shimon Peres with an ancient galleon called "Nahko" which had been used by Spanish sailors as a privateer before being captured bypite Japanese forces during World War II. After World War II, many countries began to give marine gifts to commemorate special occasions or events such as Victory Day or Christmas. Among these nations were Sweden (1946), Finland (1949), Norway (1951), Estonia (1959), Latvia (1980), Australia (1964) and Bahrain (1990). Since Maritime Gifts has opened its doors in 2002 it has become one of the most popular tourist attractions within Hampton Roads area because it offers visitors unique insight into maritime history not found anywhere else!

Albemarle is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Raleigh-Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Albemarle was founded in 1792 by Major George Washington and his relief party from Roanoke Island after their disastrous expedition to that island. In 1842, Albemarle became the seat of government for Wake County following the creation of that county from parts of Durham and Johnston Counties. In 1847, Albemarle incorporated as a city under Carroll County law. On July 1, 1970, Albemarle became an independent town under statehood following a constitutional amendment passed by the General Assembly. The town has since undergone several name changes including Alamance (1825), Brunswick (1868), Edgecombe (1904), and finally its current name—Albemarle—in 1984.
Albemarle was founded in 1729 by John Albemarle and his wife, Susannah. The town was named for the Charlotte Mountains to the north. In 1776, Albemarle was destroyed by a severe storm; however, the town rebuilt and prospered until 1875 when it lost its status as an incorporated municipality.
