Yonkers, New York is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 54,491 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest town in New York and the tenth-largest in America. Yonkers is located on the border of two counties: Westchester County to the south and Rockland County to the north. The area around Yonkers has been inhabited by humans since at least 12000 BC. The first European settlers arrived in 1624, when Pieter Stuyvesant founded a trading post on what is now Main Street. In 1764, Dutch farmers established a small settlement called Utica on what is now Orchard Drive; this later became Yonkers. From 1785 until 1814, both Utica and Yonkers were part of Queens County; during that time, both settlements were managed by a single administrator. In 1814, as part of larger Governor Clinton's scheme to consolidate power within New York under one authority, he divided Queens into five districts: Utica district would become Rockland County; Annexation of Kingston would result in the creation of Westchester County (the present day Bronx); Monticello would become Putnam County; Northfield would become Dutchess County (nowClinton); and Southold would become Nassau COUNTY (nowwestern Long Island). With these changes came new names for several key residential streets: Washington Avenue became Brookline Avenue; Maiden Lane became Park Avenue/First Avenue; Frontenac Boulevard became Sunrise Boulevard/Pacific Boulevard; Union Square became Fifth Avenue/Eighth Streets—alluding to their original location within or near present-day Yonkers proper. During its earliest years as an agricultural village – before it had any white people living there – Yonkers was known as "Nappanee". In 1794 its founder proprietor Samuel Nappanee erected a high windmill on Round Hill about three miles northwest of today's downtown Yonkers for grinding flour for local mills and selling bread from his bakery four times daily to shoppers passing through his village directly opposite Schenectady Mills on Capitol Road (then Route 9). When flour prices began rising early in the 20th century due to increased usage at American Factories throughout Manhattan and other large cities elsewhere throughout North America due to World War I shortages caused byabandonment of SVF silkworm laying fields–Nappanee wound up becoming something more than just an honest farmer but also quite wealthy thanks largely to his role in building infrastructure including roads connecting western Rockland with eastern Putnam Counties during this period as well as various other initiatives over many years that helped make life easier for scores of local residents & businesses who did not benefit financially from such developments–a status quo advantageous only because those responsible either never actually got around to fixing things or chose instead simplyto continue taking advantage while others Suffered & Things steadily worsened…Today Nappanee’s Windmill still stands & grinds out fresh Flour every morning right outside downtown Yonker!

Yonkers is a city in Upstate New York, United States. The population was 113,545 at the 2010 census. Yonkers has been called "the Athens of the Adirondacks" for its historical and cultural ties to that community. The city was founded on December 12, 1784 by Jameson Moss and others as a small settlement on land that had been purchased from the Mohawk people. It became an incorporated village in 1835 and was named after George Washington's home town of Alexandria, Virginia. Yonkers was placed within the new Erie County in 1867, when the county was created from portions of Dutchess and Westchester counties. In 1898 it became part of the newly formed Metropolitan Borough of Manhattan, which included all of New York City except Brooklyn. In 1965 it lost its independence as a municipality and merged with other municipalities within the new borough to form Yonkers-Rochester Park. In 2007, Yonkers received national attention following allegations of child sexual abuse by priests in the Archdiocese of NY (now Newark) dating back decades. After months of investigation into these claims by state authorities and local detectives with input from federal law enforcement agents working alongside them, Governor Eliot Spitzer announced his plans to create a statewide statue recognizing victims of child sexual abuse
