Westbury is a town in Orange County, New York,United States. The population was 11,898 at the 2010 census. Westbury is part of the Oneonta–Easton Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers to what is now Westbury were farmers who arrived in 1772 from Connecticut and Rhode Island. They renamed their town after Mount Vernon, one of George Washington's residences in Fairfax County, Virginia. In 1812, the town was platted by General Philip Schuyler and named after him; it became a village in 1821. The village had a population of 902 in 1830 but declined to 711 in 1850 and 522 in 1860; it closed its doors for good in 1870. In 1871, however, the New York State Legislature granted Westbury an official city charter; it became a city on July 1, 1895. In 1927–28 the Oneonta-Easton Board of Education built two schools—the original South High School (later demolished) and then North High School—with land donated by Mrs. Alvira Barton Blanchard. On May 15, 1928 students entered into an open competition for designing a school name which was announced as "The Community Schools Project". After much deliberation and voting by members of both boards (inter alia through public hearings), selection of "The Community Schools Project" was made unanimously on Wednesday evening October 2nd 1928 by Mr. Jerald Peele president of Easton board of education with Mrs Alvira Barton Blanchard serving as chairperson

Westbury, New York is a small town in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hunterdon County and part of the New York metropolitan area. Westbury is located on the southern edge of what was once agricultural land that now forms part of urban areas including Princeton and Troy. The first permanent settler in this area was Peter Stuyvesant, who arrived in 1624 from Amsterdam. In 1715, John Sayre built a mill onstream near present-day Westbury Lake. That same year, George Washington founded a school here to provide education for children living along Long Pond east of Westbury village. In 1802, Slocum Purchase made it an incorporated village under the name "Westbury". On July 1, 1835, Fordham Presbyterian Church was erected here as one of several churches established in what would become Hunterdon County. In 1842–43 Drury Chapel was built as one of five chapels funded by Andrew Dickson to replace tired old Congregational churches which had been destroyed by fire during the Great Fire (1836). This chapel remains today one of the most popular tourist destinations in town and has hosted numerous events such as concerts and meetings over its years including presidential inaugurations and crusades against slavery. On July 13th 1861 when Confederate forces moved into western New York to attack Fort Erie they were met with heavy resistance at White Plains Bridge by Union forces commanded by General Ulysses S Grant with 2 regiments from Ulster County under Colonel Augustus Herkimer leading them opposing 9 regiments from Middlesex County commanded by Colonel Robert Ewellsupported by 3 companies from Columbia County led by Captain Samuel Hecker operating outfitted with artillery intrenchments
