Westbury, New York is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 12,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area. The town was first settled in 1778 by Congregationalists from Connecticut. In 1802 it became a part of the United States and was renamed Westbury after Mount Vernon, Georgia (the original home of George Washington). In 1851 it removed to its present location on the eastern edge of Rome Township. In 1912, Westbury established itself as an agricultural center with large-scale production of hay and vegetables. Its fame as a potter's town began in the early 1900s; there are still many small workshops producing ceramic ware and other crafts around town. The townsite had been gifts from two brothers who were agricultural millionaires: Isaac Aspinwall and Solomon Aspinwall. Today much of what makes Westbury unique has arisen from its partnerships with nearby villages - most notably Rome and Beacon Hill - which have helped make it one of America's most livable towns by reducing crime rates and improving transportation options

Westbury was a small village in the town of Westbury, New York, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is now part of the town of White Plains. Westbury is first mentioned in 1624 as "Werburgh" and later changed to "Westberry". In 1798 it was renamed "Westbury Heights". The first settler in what became Westbury was Nicholas Willard who arrived in 1799. He built a log cabin on the east side of present-day Main Street. The first post office at Westbury Heights was established in 1813. David Fenton opened a store there in 1822 and built a sawmill on the riverbank across from his store. A gristmill followed soon after. In 1828, John Burt erected an iron frame house on land donated by him near where he had earlier operated a farm with his brother James Burt. The house still stands today and is known as the Briggs House Museum (now called Windham County Historical Museum). In 1829, Nathanial Gibbs bought out Fenton's share in the mill and began producing flour here for local merchants and farmers. In 1830, he erected another iron frame house on property just north of his predecessor's original house which served as home to both entities until 1865 when it burned down along with most of Gibbs' other holdings including his mills and associated buildings during an intense fire that destroyed much of White Plains January 15th 1863
British colonial rule in New York was ended by the American Revolution in 1776. The British were replaced by the United States of America as the dominant power in the region. The area that is now Westbury was part of what is now Long Island during British rule. In 1795, following the Treaty of Paris ending the French and Indian War, New York became a U.S. territory and it has been an American possession ever since.
