In 1917, the United States Air Force was formed as a result of the American entry into World War I. The Air Force's first commander was Major General Hugh S. Johnson. The Air Force grew rapidly and in 1928 it became an independent service with its own budget and operational command structure. By 1935, air force forces were deployed worldwide and included more than 100 squadrons of bombers, reconnaissance planes, fighter aircraft, and amphibious assault vessels. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, the Air Force underwent expansion which led to increased demand for military personnel and equipment. This growth also required new bases and airstrips throughout the United States; one such location was Westbury Airport in New York County. In 1941, Westbury Airport became an integral part of theAAF when it was opened as a base for strategic bombardment missions against Nazi Germany during World War II. During World War II, air force deployments played an important role in saving countless lives by providing assistance to coalition forces on land or afloat. For example, during Operation Neptune's Spear – a campaign against Japanese forces located on Guam – air force bombers provided support for ground troops by bombing enemy positions while warships bombarded shipping lanes Critical infrastructure including bridges and airports were destroyed or damaged resulting in decreased access to essential supplies for Japanese soldiers/officersand their families (Mackenzie 1951). Additionally, bomber raids against Japan resulted in numerous civilian casualties that helped publicize Japan's war crimes leading to eventual indictment of Emperor Hirohito on charges of war crimes (Yoshihara 1970). Additionally during World War II the USAF gained experience flying different types of aircraft which would be put to use later in Korean War operations where they flew C-119 Flying Fortress anti-aircraft gunships supported ground combat (Snyder 2003). With advances in technology since World War II ended there has been an increasing trend towards deploying airborne platforms globally through cooperative efforts between NATO member states as well as partner nations around the world (Brewster 2016). One such example is using MQ-9 Reaper drones which are light attack jets designed specifically for intelligence gathering over long ranges; this program began operations at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson outside Anchorage Alaska in 2015 following successful test flights (Alaska Daily News 2016). It should be noted that despite recent advancements there is still much work remaining to be done when it comes to deploying troops or other airborne assets efficiently across large distances; this is exemplified by continued Afghanistan conflict where traditional methods like artillery fire have failed to regain control over key areas Resulting in high troop numbers per square mile making mobility difficult

Westbury, New York is a small town in upstate New York. The population was 5,883 at the 2010 census. It is located in the counties of Westchester and Rockland. The first Europeans to visit what is now Westbury were Dutch settlers who landed on Long Island in 1624. The area that would become Westbury was part of the Manor of Easton which was granted to Sir Edmund Andros by King George III in 1764. In 1815, a group of British officers led by Major General John Sullivan founded a military post called Fort Erie on the east side of Great South Road, about two miles south-west of present day Westbury Village. The village developed around this post and soon became known as "Sullivan's colony". A school was built here in 1820 and named for General John Sullivan; it continued to be used until 1902 when it was replaced by a more modern building. In 1827, John D’Angelo bought from the French Canadian Pierre-Eugène Rousseles 1/2 mile east of present day Main Street the land north and west of fronting on Mohawk River where he erected an extensive estate including many large trees, buildings and outbuildings still standing today (the old farm house being one such structure). For many years this property served as an important center for trade along with other villages located nearby including Jericho or Southampton which had similar boundaries but grew closer because they shared common trade routes with Albany through Ulster County and also shared borders with Centrepointe or Yonkers. Unfortunately for these villages their days as major cultural centers came to an end due primarily to increased competition from larger communities situated nearer by on Long Island whose populations mushroomed during the 1830s after troops arrived following the Mexican War (and immediately began developing some new sites near present day Kingston upon Hudson). One result may have been that wealthy farmers within artillery range relocated away from smaller towns while others abandoned farming altogether making it difficult for any single village to maintain strong cultural ties outside its own immediate area The growth spurt following American independence however did not die down completely - local farmers established new villages nearby while maintaining close relationships with their former ones both through cultural exchange programs and occasional business ventures
