In 1865, Nicholas Fenton founded Fenton's Coffee House on Clinton Street near Union Station with help from entrepreneur Averill Harriman . The coffee house soon became one of Watertown’s most popular tourist attractions. The popularity of coffee led to an increase in business opportunities for Fenton and he developed other businesses such as flour mills and grocery stores around the town center.
