The first settler in what is now Valley Stream was Abram de Courcy who arrived in 1683. The town was founded by Moses Young and others on April 11, 1831 from parts of Easton and Amhersttown townships. It was named for the stream that ran through it. The original mills were destroyed by a fire in 1846 but were rebuilt and continued to operate until 1904. They produced flour, rice, pasta doughs and other products for local markets as well asexport to Europe and Asia.
