Valley Stream is a city in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 7,752 at the 2010 census. The City of Valley Stream was incorporated on February 17, 1881. The valley has been inhabited by the Mohawk people for centuries and their language is still spoken today. The first Europeans to visit the area were Dutch settlers in 1624 who named it "Wasteland" because of the high water table and lack of trees. In 1664, English colonists founded a small town here called North Valley Falls after finding a waterfall near present-day Yonkers. North Valley Falls quickly became an important trade center due to its position at an intersection of two major Routes 22 and 9. Valley Stream's rich soil also made it an ideal location for farming, cattle ranching and manufacturing during the 19th century; Valle stream woolen mill was among the most successful mills in America at that time. In 1820, when New York state became a territory of the United States, Valley Stream became part of Dutchess County under American rule as part of what is now Westchester County. During World War II, several factories were built in Valley Stream including Ford Motor Company's River Rouge plant which produced trucks for the Allied forces; Bethlehem Steel Company's Simi Hills plant which manufactured munitions; Columbia Textile Mills' Bedford facility which produced clothing; Singer Sewing Machine Corporation's Hyde Park plant which manufactured machines used in creative sewing such as quilting and embroidery; General Electric's Atlantic Yards site where they built power plants and other engineering features early in their history; AIB Bank Corporation's Oneonta branch (now First Niagara Trust) which served as headquarters for many years before moving to Rochester late in that era; and finally HSBC bank’s new building opened here in 2006 across from Yankee Stadium - one of only a handful buildings ever constructed on this site within reach of both Manhattan AND Buffalo! In recent years there has been significant investment brought about by various businesses opening up shop here such as Obvious Pizza (which relocated from Buffalo), Dunkin' Donuts (opened up a franchise here), Applebees (opening up a location next door), Dolce & Gabbana (opening up multiple locations throughout town) along with several more recently opened restaurants like Hooters / wings etc.. Valley Stream is a town in westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 8,645 at the 2010 census. Valley Stream is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. It is bordered by the communities of White Plains to the east and Douglaston to the west. The first Europeans to explore and settle in what is now Valley Stream were Dutch traders and colonists who arrived in 1624. They named their new settlement after valley stream, which they found near present-day Scarsdale. In 1685, English settlers also arrived in Valley Stream and named it for its source of water -Valley Brook—a tributary of River Thames. The settlements around Vallelstream gradually grew into businesses and villages until they were incorporated as Village of Valley Stream on November 1, 1892. Valley Stream experienced rapid growth during World War II as residential areas were requisitioned for military use or used as bombing targets; however, it declined following the war's end in 1945. However, commercial development resumed briefly in the late 1970s before fading again; however, recent efforts have revived aspects of the community such as an annual Cherry Blossom Festival and a summerfest that draws thousands of people each year to enjoy music, artistry, foodie attractions and light entertainment from evening till morning. Today’s ValleyStream community has seen some significant redevelopment over the past few years – with plans underway for a new library (opened September 2019), expanded public parks (including one featuring an NHL hockey rink), new homes for state workers relocated from other parts of New York after Governor Andrew Cuomo proposed that all positions be filled through recruitment ads only because there are no qualified candidates available locally) – but overall much remains unchanged since its early days when families gathered around fires on warm winter nights to trade goods and gossip about day-to-day life within easy reach of their homes."
