Valley Stream is a small town in upstate New York, about 20 miles east of Buffalo. It was founded in 1814 by Colonel George Washington Carver and his wife, Sarah. Valley Stream is one of the oldest towns in the United States. The population was 22,191 at the 2010 census. The town is named for the stream that runs through it. Valley Stream measures only 2.5 miles wide at its widest point and meanders slowly south-southeastward for nearly its entirelength; consequently, most of what lies within it was developed before any water ever reached it from outside sources. In fact, as late as 1894 there were only a few residences on either side of the stream – except for a couple scattered around some very low hills lying just beyond its banks1). Today much of what lay within Valleyswim has been replaced by housing developments: essentially all but two blocks along both banks of the stream are now populated with dwellings2). Though valley-wide development has occurred relatively recently (the first recorded buildings being erected in 1915), Valley Stream’s history goes back even further than that: its original inhabitants (sofar as we can tell) were Native American hunters and gatherers who roamed this part of central New York for centuries3). One such individual – Colonel George Washington Carver – played an important role in setting Valleyswim apart from other nearby settlements4). Carver was not born in Valleyswim but rather grew up near Auburn, New York6), so he had firsthand experience with both the natural resources available hereabouts and with life on Indian reservations7). As early as 1814 he had contracted to purchase 6 acres (2 hectares)of land north of present day Main Street8), which he did not live to see completed9); however, his purchases laid the groundwork for later development hereabouts10). Valley Stream’s earliest residents likely arrived via water transportation11): boats unloaded their cargo at points upstream from where they would be distributed among various forks of the river12); thereafter they set about constructing their homes and businesses13). In addition to its strategic location overlooking one major body of water (Valley Stream flows into Lake Erie just east of Buffalo), another Factor Influencing Valley Stream’s Earliest Development was Its Relative isolation from other settlements throughout Central New York14): unlike many other areas where settlers gradually moved closer together over time15),valley-wide settlement actually began relatively slowly16): indeed, until quite recent times virtually everything within sight or reachof any residenteither north or southof Valleyswitchwaslanded either directly or indirectly upon those same waterways17!). This isolationism undoubtedly helped contribute to Valleyswims unique character18): despite this certain degree thereof autonomy19), nevertheless all mannerOf officialdom & traffic operated simultaneously thro'out [sic] our limits20]). Indeed much remains unchanged today concerning how things were done hereabouts21): indeed, yesterday's news may well be tomorrow's gossipin [sic] these fast-paced times22)!

Valley Stream was a town in the Adirondacks, New York, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Valley Stream is also the name of a creek that flows from east to west through the town. The valley is named after stream Valleys which flowed through it. The first people to live in what is now Valley Stream were three brothers who settled there in 1795 and named it for their then-current valley in Scotland – Valleys of Lochalsh and Leven (now Limerick). They may have been inspired by John Logan's description of a "valley pursuing its course between high mountains" near Edinburgh on his way back from an expedition to North America in 1785. In 1807, General John Forbes erected a fortification at present-day Valley Stream as part of his militia defense against Native Americans led by Chief Joseph Brant. In 1814, Congress authorized the erection of two more forts along with Fort Edward on Lake George; but no action was taken until 1825 when President James K. Polk ordered Captain David Wilmot to build Fort Niagara using money obtained from Mexico during the Mexican–American War Fort Erie was built across the river from present-day Valley Stream while Fort Niagara became known as White Plains because only men could cross into Canada without being fired upon by American forces garrisoning there. From this location Indian laborers worked on farms east of Buffalo before being transported downriver for work on Upstate New York plantations about one mile wide and one mile deep where they formed what is now considered Oneida County culturally and linguistically apart from Iroquois communities living closer to Albany and Buffalo watersheds. At first these transportation projects were carried out by oarsmen but later steamboats brought goods upriver overSound bridges including Canandaigua River crossing just upstream of today's Whitesboro village before terminating at Ravenswood Island off Kingston/Oneonta Harbor where warehouses remained until 1907 when they were razed following orders from local planners who wanted more efficient transportation systems for Ivankoville (present day Rochester) . Valley Stream residents continue to rely heavily on water supply for their needs whether it be through underground aquifers or surface runoff since those responsible for managing water resources within town limits have always been hands-on leaders with strong allegiance to place

Valley Stream was a major waterway in New York State, running east-west through the Finger Lakes region. It was first settled by the Mohawk Nation in the 17th century, and later became part of the British Empire. The valley formed as two branches of the Finger Lakes, which separated about 12,000 years ago. Valley Stream reached its current course about 900 years ago when it flowed from Lake Ontario into Lake Champlain.
