The Utica, New York Air Force Base is home to the United States Air Force's 505th Airlift Wing. This wing is responsible for providing airlift service to military and civilian customers in New York and Utica counties. The wing has a long history of deploying gift baskets, flowers, chocolates, and other treasures to servicemen and women stationed at Utica AFB. In 1952, the then-101st Airlift Wing was activated at Utica AFB as the first USAF unit permanently stationed in the state of New York. From its inception until 1997, when it was disbanded due to budget cuts, the 505th Airlift Wing had responsibility for conducting worldwide military cargo transport operations from Utica AFB. Gift history with the 505th Airlift Wing began in 1951 when LtCol Donald Cramer led an effort to create a gift basket for members of the 101st Abilitive Wing who were deployed overseas. The resulting basket contained items such as candy bars and cigarettes for troops on their return home from combat zones. In 1957, Colonel John Ahern directed that all gifts sent to servicemen or women assigned at Utica AFB be made through Military Sealift Command's Commodity Stores detachment located at Naval Station Kings Point on Long Island. This detachment helped makeUtica AFB one of the world's leading transportation hubs for gifts delivered pursuant to Operation Santa Claus. It also popularized gifting within the USAF by allowing servicemen and women from all branches of service to send personal items along with theirpackages during Christmas steamship wrapups throughout North America! Since its inception as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1978, The 505th Airlift Wing has contributed more than $100 million toward employee benefits programs at Utica AFB. These include health insurance plans for retirees/early retirees; family leave benefits; retirement benefits; disability insurance; life insurance; death benefits; annual dues waivers (for members' spouses); tuition reimbursement programs (for civilians receiving undergraduate or graduate study at Utica AFB Majors campuses); and numerous others unique initiatives unique to this wing alone! Gifts have also been sent in support of local cancer awareness campaignsand many other worthy causes throughout our community!
The air force deployed a gift to Afghanistan this year in memory of service members killed in the line of duty. The gift is a set of binoculars that allow soldiers and civilians to see the beauty of Afghanistan from a new perspective. The binoculars were donated by American Optical, makers of high-quality telescopes and binoculars. The U.S. military has been providing free training for Afghans to use the telescopes, and they are also being used by locals to help view the country’s natural landmarks from far away. The telescope gift is an important reminder that our military is there to support those who have lost their lives in uniform, as well as give back something valuable to society. It is also an opportunity for people living in Afghanistan to get a better understanding of their own country and its people.
In 1924, the Utica-Oneonta Air Force Base was activated as a response to World War I. The base served as an airfield and training ground for the New York National Guard and United States Air Service. In World War II, Utica was home to the Eighth Air Force's 12th Bombardment Wing which conducted strategic bombing raids against Nazi Germany. The wing was disbanded in 1946 and its aircraft were reassigned to other bases. The Utica-Oneonta AFB gift history began in 1984 when then-Mayor John Rhodes donated a surplus Cessna 182 airplane to the facility. In 1992, Governor Mario Cuomo dedicated an addition to the base that would house theUtica Airport Administration Building. Today, Utica is home to three military installations: 1st Infantry Division Fort Drum (Airmen), 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team/1st Armored Division Buffalo (Soldiers), and 4th Battalion/5th Marines/UTICA AIR FORCE BASE (Airmen).
Utica is a town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 11,868 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Orange County. The town was incorporated on November 3, 1792 and named for General JamesClinton Utica (1755-1812), who commanded forces during the American Revolution and Battle of Saratoga. The first settler in Utica was Nicholas Biddle. In 1813, John C. Calhoun served as Mayor from 1813 to 1815 and again from 1830 to 1832; he also served as Sheriff of Orange County from 1800 to 1802. The Erie Canal ran through Utica until it was destroyed by a flood in 1825 and its replacement project took longer than expected. In 1861, when New York State became an all-white state following the Civil War, Utica's black residents were forcibly removed to new towns such as Hastings or Morristown due to Jim Crow segregation laws then in effect in New York State. They returned after Reconstruction but many remained out of reach financially because white businesses did not want black employees). After passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which outlawed discrimination against African Americans by employers and public officials alike, many blackUticans moved back into Utica or nearby Syracuse following integration policies enacted by local government entities throughout New York state beginning with Rochester in 1965. As part of larger efforts across much of northcentral New York during the 1990s to stimulate economic development within rural communities that had been experiencing statewide recession since the late 1980s, town leaders announced plans to build a $225 million mixed-use community called " utica 2020 ", consisting primarily of housing units; retail space; a small business park; and open space that could include basketball courts, soccer fields and other sports facilities similar to those found in neighboring Rochester—a city whose economy had seen rapid growth over several decades despite having no Black residents living within its boundaries until recently—and Syracusevillege (then known as Genesee County), one half century after both cities' incorporation into their current borders when they were unincorporated poor villages located along waterways near major metropolitan areas while their respective populations included substantial minority communities that contributed heavily to their economies Once built it would be home only to white people up until reaching beyond its limits with increasing diversity ensuing beyond its walls oncemarketplace

Utica is a town in upstate New York, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Mohawk River and is part of Utica-Rome, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original name of Utica may have been Oneida (now Oneida County). The first white settlers arrived in 1792 from Connecticut. They founded the city of Utica on the Mohawk River to provide goods and services to their Indian allies. In 1814, the state of New York ceded sovereignty over Utica to Rome, which renamed it "Utica" in honor of Emperor Constantine I of Constantinople. In 1827, John Sherman bought 640 acres (250 hectares) east of downtown Utica for $10 per acre; this later became known as Sherman Park. In 1829 he donated an additional 160 acres (50 hectares) east of downtown to the Town Trustees for use as a public school district and parkland called “Sherman Park Reserve” today’s John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. This donation made Sherman one of the largest private donors in history for public education in Upstate New York. During its early years, Utica had three churches: First Baptist Church (founded 1792), Congregationalist Church (1827), and Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1830). These denominations merged into one church complex called Third Presbyterian Dutch Reformed Church in 1865 when that congregation purchased both First Presbyterian Dutch Reformed Churches from their respective owners within two years of each other. On October 14th 1888, Reverend Abraham Lincoln delivered his second inaugural address from Second Presbyterian Dutch Reformed American Synagogue located at 115 State Street adjacent to what is now Cooper Union University while seated inside Third Presbyterian Dutch Reformed American Synagogue also known as “Lincoln Hall” today’s Guggenheim Museum/New York City Campus due to its location on Fifth Avenue between Twenty-Third Street and Amsterdam Avenue during those days before Rutgers University relocated there following Woodrow Wilson’s presidency in 1913 which created another major traffic blockage along Fifth Avenue originally named Lincoln Hall but now known as Cooper Union University Campus after then President Woodrow Wilson transferred Rutgers University campus there permanently following his term ending on December 6th 1916 having won re-election against incumbent William Gibbs McAdoo despite being impeached by Congress for lying about giving federal financial support to Create National Defense League during World War I based on false information given him by Edwin Stanton who served underUlysses S Grant during that time period . A group led by Dr Samuel Ziegler formed “ uticans for president” hoping to get Ulysses S Grant appointed as their candidate for President when General George Washington announced his candidacy for President in 1880 but they failed miserably with only 2% support coming fromutican residents compared To Ulysses S Grant's 96% win percentage nationally despite never running again after leaving office because he decided not run again seeking re-election instead becoming Vice President under Andrew Johnson who served twice through 1884 before becoming US Ambassador to Russia under Ulysses S Grant prior winning reelection against Harrison Gray Otis Sr./Ulysses S Grant running mate
Utica was founded in 1788 as a trading post on the bank of the Utica River. The town grew rapidly in the early 1800s, and by 1825 it had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1827, Utica became an incorporated city. The city's growth continued during the 19th century, and by 1895 it had reached its current size. Utica played a significant role in the American Revolution, and during World War I it served as a base for Allied forces fighting in Europe. In 1951, Utica merged with the nearby City of Rome to form the largest city in New York State.
