By 1830,Nicholas had also founded what would become known as the “Great Hotel” which still stands today and provided lodging for government officials and businessmen alike during times of crisis or opportunity. During the 1840s-50s, various mills sprang up throughout central New York due to increased demand for flour from area farmers; one such mill was located in downtown Troy (now part of the political district of Westchester). This growth led to new development around downtown including commercial areas (the Warehouse District), residential districts (eastern side of Broadway between Mulberry Street/Madison Avenue/Washington Street), and finally Municipal Park on Broadway between Clinton Street North and Spring Street South (now part of Central Park) which served as an open air market day each week throughout much of the 19th century. In 1857–58 Andrew Jackson moved into politics here after winning election as President at home with support from local farmers; he quickly began moving forward with plans to improve public transportation through construction of twoanking roadways connecting western New York City with eastern Manhattan via Albany County – something later expanded to Buffalo when those same roads were built). In 1862-63 American Civil War veteran Augustus Kelley played an important role leading Confederate forces against Union forces at Battle Niagara near present day Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; his death immortalized him when Cemetery Road southbound near Watkins Glen State Park was renamed Kelley battlefield following his remains being found here more than 50 years later! It wasn't until 1865 that new Mayor George Fitzinger got things moving by organizing the first municipal election ever held here – something that continues to be done annually even today! That year too saw widespread development around downtown thanks to railroad expansion: tracks were laid down through what is now Central Park South from Washington Square northward towards today’s Madison Avenue - all while construction continued on nearby buildings like Oneonta Hall which would eventually house Columbia University (though not yet completed). Finally, following World War I when America entered into hostilities again owing largely to European interests bordering on ussee Germany - spending went up rapidly due both domestically & abroad resulting in significant economic growth for everyone involved! This period also saw some major milestones like completion of First National Bank building on Main Street just east of Plaza de Mayo – symbolizing how things had changed so rapidly since Nicholas Trojan had started trading goods here back then! And finally we come across commemoration events such as V-J Day Memorial Service held every year at noon inside Community Center Annex next door where people can pay their respects to military veterans killed during WWII right outside the building…all without touching any ground! All these events & more are commemorated yearly at Pioneer Square adjacent thereto where US Constitution Monument still stands 🙂
In 1813, Troy was part of the United States and became a territory of New York. In 1814, the territorial legislature voted to annex what is now Albany County to New York. In 1821, Troy's charter as a town was granted by New York State and it became an incorporated village in 1825. The first mayoralty of Troy took place on April 20, 1830 with James W. Phelps as the inaugural Mayor. Troy experienced rapid growth after becoming an incorporated village and passed its first resolution for incorporation as a town on February 10, 1833. On October 16th of that year, the first election for mayor took place and incumbent Phelps lost to John J. Sheehan by 2 votes out of 322 cast ballots. The population of Troy increased from 302 in 1830 to 3,711 by 1840 when it annexed other parcels including present-day Albany County
