It is no secret that the navy has a long and storied history in Tarrytown, New York. The town was established by Dutch settlers in 1624 and became an important naval base during the Revolutionary War. After the war, Tarrytown grew rapidly as a center for shipbuilding and commerce. Today, it remains a vibrant community with a rich maritime history. The navy's first vessel to transit the seas of Long Island was HMS Victory, which arrived in Tarrytown on November 12, 1792. The victors of the Revolutionary War had deeply impressed the Dutch colonists with their military prowess and victorious campaigns against English forces. In order to commemorate this significant event, Commodore John Graves Simcoe organized a dinner at Painted Chair tavern on December 13th celebrating HMS Victory's arrival. At this dinner, Simcoe awarded medals to various members of the community who had participated in its success. Today, USS Constitution Museum (Navy Memorial) honors America's first Naval Ship with her permanent home located within Navy Yard Building at West Point Road and Third Avenue in Tarrytown. The museum features rotating displays on American Naval History from Colonial Times through World War II including artifacts from USS Constitution herself as well as related warships from that time period around New York Harbor

Tarrytown is a small town in Upstate New York, located on the border of Monroe and Oswego counties. The population was 5,795 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester, New York Metropolitan Area. The first settlers in what is now Tarrytown were colonists from England who arrived in 1624. They organized into villages and started trading with other villages near their settlement. In 1749, Tarrytown became a part of Albany County and was renamed "Tarrytown." In 1811, President James K. Polk moved his family to Tarrytown after they inherited land from their father-in-law. They built a house that still stands today as one of the oldest houses in Tarrytown. After he died in 1828, his wife Marilla lived there until her death in 1850. She bequeathed her home and land to her son George Washington Polk Jr., who moved it to its current location next to the old post office building on Main Street in 1872 when he became President of the United States. "Tarry Town", as it was known until about 1870, covers an area slightly larger than one half square mile (0.8 km2). At that time it consisted only of a few scattered farmsteads and hamlets situated around three large roundabout or common fields: White Plains Road (now US 213), Church Hill Road (now State Route 317), and Ridgefield Road/Route 24 south of present-day Main Street (between what are now Rte 25A/25B) just east of where Lake Ontario meets Fire Island National Lakeshore). The village had no permanent schools; each household educated its children by reading aloud from religious texts or contributing sums towards tuition at local public schools opened on nearby Long Island Sound beaches during summer seasons." The first post office for Tarrytown was founded on December 14th, 1795 by Colonel John Johnston with mail delivered twice weekly between Albany and Kingston using stagecoaches called "Old Post". Government service began at this location on October 11th, 1813 when Major General Anthony Wayne received letters addressed to him at Fort Niagara while stationed there with his brigade under Lieutenant Colonel Ebenezer Dodgeman's command as part of Genl Wayne's Invasion Force which invaded Canada during July & August 1800s

The town of Tarrytown, New York is located in the southern tip of Manhattan on the east bank of the Hudson River. The population was 5,481 at the 2010 census. It was first settled by Dutch and English settlers in 1624 and from 1714 to 1783 it was part of Albany County. In 1834, Tarrytown became a separate Town of Troy and until 1898 it was known as Westchester County. The name "Tarrytown" derives from a word meaning "thousand PINTS" or "a thousand pieces". Troy was one of several towns founded by colonists along the eastern bank of the Hudson River during what is called The Great Awakening period (1636-1660). Many Protestant ministers traveled to these settlements to preach Christianity's gospel, which had been preached in Europe for centuries before reaching America. One such preacher, John Cotton, founded what is now Troy in 1624 while preaching at an Anglican church outside New Amsterdam on Governors Island. In 1714, when Albany County was created out of portions of Ulster and Middlesex counties, Tarrytown became part of that new county. However, because it lay within Westchester County - then still part of Albany - Tarrytown remained primarily an agricultural center with few commercial activities until after World War II when its economy diversified into manufacturing and services such as education and health care
Tarrytown was a small town in upstate New York, and is now part of the city of Albany. The town was first settled in 1788 by men from arraignment, who were looking for a new home after being deported from Maryland. The site where Tarrytown now stands was chosen because of its location near the Mohawk River. Tarrytown became a town in 1827, when it amalgamated with nearby Westchester County. The original name of the town may have been "Tarentum". In 1788, during the French and Indian War, General John Sullivan's army burned down the village of Tarentum on the east side of the Mohawk River because it had refused to sign an oath renouncing independence from Great Britain. Many settlers fled to Tarrytown after Sullivan's victory, and some arrived before July 1, 1789 which allowed them to build houses without fear of British reprisal. On July 8th, 1800 (the day following George Washington's inauguration), Fort Niagara surmounted by four guns was built at present-day Tarrytown on what is now Riverside Drive. The fort served as a military post until 1814 when it was abandoned because Native Americans threatened to take over the area. According to legend, General Alexander Hamilton considered founding a small community called "Hamiltonburg" in what is now Albany but decided against it because he didn't want people living next door to him and thinking he controlled everything. Instead he founded Tarrytown as a way for farmers and others living near him not to feel so alone or dependent on him financially. After his death in 1802, his widow decided to keep Hamiltonburg instead and continued developing it into one of Albany’s most prestigious neighborhoods today known as Upper Manhattan Village/ Dellroy Row). On October 15th (or November 3rd), 1830 – two days after Andrew Jackson's election as president – Union troops burned down several homes along Nassau Street between State Street and Wall street in Troy due to complaints about militia activity thereabouts! This event marks one of only three times that New York City has seen violence during its history; other examples include December 16th 1825 when crowds gathered downtown response to riots caused by James Caldwell's failure as Collector for Internal Revenue; December 12th 1898 - A mutiny aboard USS Olympia leadsto open warfare between American sailors and Spanish Marines aboard HMAS Sydney (1896) After years of petitioning by local farmers seeking more political power within their own communities they managed receive their wish on February 7th 1865 when NY State Legislature passed an act creating Oneida County out OF Allegany County! As part of this consolidation process many residents chose not Torytown status & relocated away making up the current Town population* Nowadays these same families maintain close ties both here & also thru our website
