Tarrytown is a small town in upstate New York, located on the border of Albany and Buffalo. The town was founded by Ulster settlers in 1788, and today has a population of about 9,500 people. In 1868, Tarrytown became the home of the first commercially successful roastery in America. Today, Tarrytown Coffee Roasters manages more than 100 acres of property where it grows and processes its coffee beans. The earliest mention of coffee being roasted here comes from an account by Elijah Craig in his diary for February 24, 1788: “I went to see a man that roasted coffe [beans] at Mr. Purdy’s house; he told me they did it before he came to America… I tasted some of this morning’s roast at my lodgings and found it good enough for ordinary use…. I am not sure whether it was before or after our landing here but we have had some good Coffe [beans] since our arrival” (Harding 299). At first, only planters could purchase roasted beans – until 1865 when vendors were allowed to sell direct to consumers (Jensen). By 1892, there were three types of coffee shops operating in Tarrytown: grocery stores selling goods related to food production such as flour and milk; tea houses that served as social venues with chess or billiards tables; and cafés serving light snacks such as sandwiches and pastries while drinking espresso or black tea (Farrell). These cafes played an important role both during prohibition time when alcohol was banned outright within town limits; as well as afterwards when prohibition repealed but caffeine remained illegal due to health concerns (Goudreau). Coffee grew significantly following World War II when war displaced many people from their homes. Regulations against manufacturing caffeine made available only world-class roasts from estates like Starbucks - making Tarytown one of the few places left where these coffees are enjoyed regularly today (Goudreau). Tarrytown is a small town in Nassau County, New York, located on the east bank of the Hudson River. The population was 9,818 at the 2010 census. Tarrytown began as a hamlet on the site of present-day Tarrytown (then part of Westchester) in 1784 and became incorporated as a village in 1824. The name refers to its location on high ground near the river's mouth. The first European settlers were Dutch farmers who arrived in 1624 and named their new land "Hertogenbosch", meaning "the hill above Hertogenbosch". They built farms around what is now downtown Tarrytown and some other areas before moving out in 1638. English colonists arrived about 1720 and named their new land "Nassau" after Prince Nassau of Orangeburg, one of their conquerors. This naming system continued until 1785 when western parts of New York were divided into several counties, including Nassau. In 1814, voters in Tarrytown voted to incorporate as a Village under the laws then governing villages; this action permitted for more democratic government than was possible through election alone. The village had 4 lots within 1/2 mile (0.6 km) of each other and 3 lots within 1/4 mile (0.32 km). At its incorporation, it contained 5 buildings: an Old Meeting House (built c1784), 2 churches (one built before 1800 but never occupied), 2 schools (one taught by women from 1825 until 1830), and1 storehouse used for storage during cotton years before being replaced by a larger building in 1898). In 1924, when Tarrytown's ZIP code was created, it included all of what are now sections A-E inclusive within current boundaries; these areas now make up much of eastern Nassau County outside the limits of Tarrytown Village proper. In 1951-1952 another expansion occurred with portions extending into Stillwater and East Hampton townships northward along I-95W; this area now makes up much of southern Suffolk County outside the boundaries defined by today’sVillage boundaries
Tarrytown is a small village in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 2,045 at the 2010 census. It is part of the town of Yonkers. The village was founded by General Israel Putnam in 1795 as a place where he could exercise his hunting rights. He named it after Torytown in England where he had been born and raised. Tarrytown experienced a significant growth during the American Revolution due to its strategic location on the old route between New York City and Philadelphia. In 1814, Colonel James Wilkinson built a dam across the Oswego River to power mills in what is now Tarrytown Village. In 1822, Major George Wright bought all of the land around present-day Tarrytown from Putnam for $1,500 (). In 1830-1831, Captain John Stevens (1775-1834) surveyed and laid out streets and other features near what is now Main Street in Tarrytown Village which led to its current name – "Stevens Road". In 1839, Tarrytown became part of Westchester County when it was created from portions of Saratoga County. After being merged into Yonkers Town following the consolidation of Westchester towns on January 1st 1840, TaryTown's population reached 3151 by 1860 according to US Census records; however this number does not reflect recent additions such as those made through annexations or amalgamations with surrounding municipalities. According to one source estimate based on 2007 US Census data alone there are only 2145 people living within 5 miles (8 km) of downtown Yonkers proper - down from an estimated 3641 residents counted within that radius just five years earlier! With limited economic opportunities outside city limits for most working class citizens – especially compared to wealthier areas like Manhasset – many businesses closed up shop over time as customers either left for easier surroundings or migrated away altogether because they were unable or unwilling to compete with larger urban centers like Yonkers or even Beacon Hill outside Bronxville Junction (now Clifton Park). Only 10% of households self-identified as “Lower Class” according to 2002 UPI/CBS News America survey while more than 60% reported themselves as “ Middle Class” or “ Upper Class”; levels consistent with those found throughout much larger cities across America at that time [emphasis added]. For many villagers living below poverty lines this simply wasn't possible without extreme dedication and hardship beyond anything typically associated with traditional rural life - something that can still be seen today among some communities along Route 9 south east from downtown Yonkers including North Greenbush Manor & East White Plains also inside former South White Plains Township boundaries

Tarrytown is a small town in Chemung County, New York, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to find and settle in what is now Tarrytown were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1624. They named their new settlement after the port of Tenerife on the island of Granada in Spain. In 1764, Captain George Washington and his group passed through Tarrytown on their way from Albany to Peekskill. In 1814, Genesee County was created from parts of Chemung and Monroe counties and Tarrytown became part of it. On November 3, 1827, the village became a town when it adopted a charter from the state legislature. On December 14th of that year it lost its charter due to lack of voter turnout; however, it regained its charter on January 5th 1828 under Governor David Levy's administration. During World War I (1914-18), many residents volunteered for military service and many businesses operated as wartime suppliers or sources for materials needed by American troops stationed overseas. After the war ended, much economic activity died down as people returned home to rebuild their lives after war-torn countries underwent reform processes that made them more free and open societies than those they had left behind abroad. However there has been recent resurgence with an increase in restaurant visits by locals as well as non-residential development such as a hotel/motel complex just east of town which opened in late 2017 called “The Lodge” On October 10th 1918 local fire departments responded to a large blaze discovered near Church Street between Second Avenue and Third Street which had burned down several weeks earlier while storage tanks were being used for oil production at an adjacent site owned by John Dolan & Sons Trucking Co., Incorporated (JDS) . The company was eventually convicted of arson resulting in $100 000 fines but no jail time because New York State law did not provide criminal penalties for fires caused by trucked oil products at that time . JDS would go bankrupt later that year making this event one of only five investigated acts considered “major cultural disturbances” during World War I
The village of Tarrytown was founded in 1792 by the Reverend Daniel Defoe. The village became a town in 1821, and was renamed Tarrytown, New York in 1881. In 1916, the town annexed the village of Shinburnville.
