The history of shooters in Spring Valley, New York goes back to the early 1800s. The first known shooter in the area was John Garton, who operated a private gunshop and shooting range on Canoga Avenue. In 1826, Alexander Butlers opened his own Shooting Hall on Main Street in Spring Valley. Butlers was one of the pioneers of pistol shooting in America and was instrumental in developing the sport into what it is today. Over time, other businesses became involved in the shooting community in Spring Valley. In 1892, Halsey Barney founded the Spring Valley Rifle Club, which remains an active organization to this day. The club sponsored annual rifle tournaments and offered lessons to aspiring shooters. In 1912, Jens Hansen opened his successful firearms store on Third Street in Spring Valley. Hansen was instrumental in developing American shotgun ammunition production and he served as president of both the American Shotgun Association (ASA) and American Pistol League (APL). Hansen's store remains a major source of firearm ammunition for shooters throughout New York State today. Between 1916 and 1978, local resident Harry Herrington ran a small business called Herrington's Gun Shop at 9 Union Avenue that specialized in selling handguns and shotguns from behind his garage door. His shop is considered to be one of the earliest gun shops ever established outside of Chicago. From humble beginnings, Herrington's Gun Shop has grown into one of New York City's most popular handgun dealers with over 350 employees nationwide!

Spring Valley is located in the Catskills of New York State. It was first settled by German immigrants in 1793. The community, now known as Vestal, was originally named for the spring near which it was founded. In 1851, a post office and school were established in Spring Valley. The community became a village in 1899 and an incorporated town in 1923. The population of Spring Valley peaked at 6,000 in 1930 but declined to 3,500 by 1990. Today, the population stands at 1,800. Spring Valley is one of the most picturesque villages in New York State and has been called "the Switzerland of America." It consists of nine blockssquare with homes on wide streets that run perpendicular to each other. Each block contains two or three houses with a small garden behind them. There are also several churches and public buildings including a library and Post Office building dating from 1907. TheVillage has been Explosionally popular with tourists because of its many attractions including: springs (including Vestal's namesake), flower gardens (of which there are over fifty), hiking/biking trails through forested areas around the valley as well as beautiful views of Mount Hope across the valley floor; AND delicious food! Spring Valley is a small town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 2,527 at the 2010 census. Spring Valley is one of the few villages in New York City that is not composed of wards or geographic areas. It is instead a unincorporated community and census-designated place. The area now known as Spring Valley was first settled by Dutch settlers in 1624. The name may come from the spring near the village which yielded water for drinking and cattle watering. A post office called Springdale was established in 1814, and it remained in operation until 1903. In 1908, the village became an incorporated place under the name of Spring Valley Village. The original residents of Spring Valley were mainly agriculturalists with some fishing and mining operations also conducted here during its early years. Families who would later found Stamford and Greenwich Village moved to Spring Valley starting around 1900 when they realized that their larger homes would not be available on Long Island should their children move to Manhattan during prohibition time because there was no liquor regulation then on Long Island as it is now. However, much of what makes up these neighborhoods today originated with families who came before them: many buildings still stand from when these neighborhoods were developed including churches (Stamford Episcopal Church being particularly notable), businesses (including an insurance company founded by John D’Angelo), schools (grades 1-12public primary school; Stonington School being especially notable) and even a few residences built specifically for tourists such as Ziegfeld Theatre west of Main Street which opened in 1907 but closed down in 1948 due to budget cuts by Mayor La Guardia The fruit industry played an important role in early development here too with apples coming into cultivation about 1840 followed by grapes about 1850 There are several small ponds still located within walking distance or just minutes away from residential areas today where apples were grown back then as well as chickens (notchbacks) for eggs There are also several interesting pieces of architecture remaining from this time including two churches - First Congregationalist Church visible afar behind Post Office; Second Presbyterian Church built before Post Office burned down circa 1915 which can be seen perched atop a hill east side street across the road from it - both remain standing despite various attempts at renovation over the years Today most residents live close to work or shopping centers while downtownSpringValley remains actively developed with several high-end shops along Third Avenue near Central Park South
The town of Spring Valley was first settled in 1795 by Pieter Van der Sluis and his wife, Cornelia. The name comes from the spring that flowed through the town. In 1807, the village of Spring Valley was platted and named after Spring Valley Creek. In 1828, the townsite of Spring Valley was enlarged by adding a new section of land to the east side of what is now Jericho Turnpike. In 1868, a post office was established in Spring Valley. In 1896, an electric light system was installed in the town and it became one of the first municipalities to have electricity service. In 1936, a water tower was built inSpring Valley and it continued to serve as a water source for residents until 1978 when it was replaced by a pipeline. In 1977, the population of Spring Valley increased when residents relocated from nearby Jericho to establish an agricultural community called Jericho Junction on lands that had been donated by Cornelius Vanderbilt II. The community thrived until 2000 when its buildings were destroyed by fire
