The first coffee beans were grown in Spanish America and brought to New York City by sailors in the 1600s. In 1824, Dutch settlers founded a farm on Manhattan's Lower East Side that became known as The Coffee House. Over time, other groups established their own plantations and businesses in New York City, such as Brown & Williamson (now Starbucks) and Dutch Bros. Coffee. In 1912, an American named John D. Rockefeller founded the National Coffee Company in Schenectady, NY with a goal of becoming the "largest coffee housekeeper in America." The company grew rapidly under Rockefeller's leadership and eventually became known as Maxwell House Coffee Company. It was during this time that Maxwell House introduced a variety of roasted beans which are now some of the most-praised coffees on the market. In 1966, Maxwell House merged with Roasteries Corporation to form Peet's Coffee & Tea Company. Over time, Peet's has helped shape coffee culture throughout North America and continues to be one of the largest commercial producers of coffee available today. Today, Peet's operates more than 100 locations across North America including locations in Schenectady and Rochester; as well as online sales through their website and Facebook page. Schenectady, New York is a small town in upstate New York that has been around since the 17th century. The population was 5,839 at the 2010 census. It is one of the five towns in Schenectady County and it is located on the eastern bank of the Mohawk River. The town was first settled by Dutch farmers in 1624. After independence from Great Britain was gained in 1776, Schenectady became part of New York State. The population grew rapidly during the 19th century thanks to waves of emigrants from Ireland, Germany, and other parts of Europe. In 1881, Schenectady became an incorporated village when it joined what were then three towns: North Sharon (now Glen Rock), South Sharon (now East Amherst), and White Plains (now Macedon). In 1923, Schenectady annexed what are now West Seneca and East Aurora neighborhoods to its borders due to overcrowding within its original boundaries. In 1965, Schenectady merged with neighboring White Plains to form a single city with a population of over 100,000 people. The coffee industry has a long and varied history, with different beans being roasted in different parts of the world. The first record of coffee being traded was in the 6th century BC, when traders brought plants back from Africa to Japan. Coffee became an important commodity in China during the Tang Dynasty because of its high quality and unique flavor. In 1875, Dutch traders discovered Java and began trading coffee there. Between 1876-1978,Java produced more than 1 million metric tons of coffee (approximately 20% of global production). The Java Coffee Growers cooperative was founded in 1916 to help improve farming techniques for Indonesia's growing population. By 1951, over 60% of all Indonesian coffee was exported to Europe. The origins of espresso are unknown, but it is thought that early human beings used hot water and groundnut oil as drinks some time before 4500 BC. In 173 BC Ptolemy I documented that a drink called "coffea pomatida" was brewed from green beans he had found on an island near Alexandria. After his death in 33 BC coffees were brewed at the royal court by Vespasianus and Nero Claudius Pulcherinus – two leading figures in Roman culture who patronized excellence in food and drinkpandered through Rome looking for new flavors to try. About this time black tea also started making appearances at public gatherings throughout Rome due to Emperor Augustus's fascination with it (although probably not until after his death). In 1795 Nicholas-Jacques Conte developed a method for roasting whole beans which made them lighter and less bitter than earlier methods while preserving their flavor profile; this soon became known as French Roasting or Niçoise Style Roasted Beans. It wasn't until 1798 that Antonio Farinacci opened up his first café in Rome under the name "Farinacci’s". Italian immigrants started arriving in America starting around 1700 AD, bringing their favorite foods with them such as pasta dishes made from flour and milk mixed together; these recipes would later be adapted into American cuisine along with other European spices like peppermint etc., which helped create what we know today as American Coffee culture (showing evidence of trade routes going back centuries!). Coffee began to spread rapidly through various parts of Europe during the Napoleonic Wars because Austria became interested in expanding their empire by importing beans from India (thus becoming one of the earliest empires ever). Napoleon decided to introduce French roast instead of Indian roast because he believed that French people preferred strong flavors over delicate ones (remember how he loved Redemption beers?). On July 9th 1898 – just three weeks after Italy's unification – Starbucks opened its doors for business within walking distance of Stations Field on Broadway between Union Square & Madison Avenue! This marked the beginning of what is now known as New York City's infamouselite enclave where rich people bought expensive items like apartments overlooking Times Square! After WWI cafés proliferated all over Asia due to military deployments across multiple continents troops were often left without any opportunity to caffeineize themselves so they'd have something productive To do while deployed...which led directly into KFC!
In the early 1800s, coffee beans were grown in small, scattered villages near the Mediterranean Sea. Roasted coffee beans were Sold by weight and sold fresh or processed in local markets. The earliest coffee plants were located about two hundred miles from Cairo, Egypt. In 1824, a Frenchman named Nicolas-Jacques Conte arrived in Cairo with his new coffee plantation and began to roast coffee beans on site. By 1830, most of the world's major roasted coffee brands were based in Cairo.
Schenectady, New York is a city located in the Finger Lakes region of north-central New York. The population was 17,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Schoharie County. The area that now constitutes Schenectady was first inhabited by the Mohawk people in 1614. In 1715, the Dutch founded a trading post on what is now State Street in Schenectady and called it "De Valk", which means "the bay." At this time, Schenectady was part of Albany County. In 1785, Schenectady became part of New York City as a result of the British Invasion and were incorporated as a town on December 14th of that year. On July 25th 1807, Troy Township (now Orchard Park) was annexed to Schenectady and on January 1st 1808, DeWitt's Tavern became the first permanent structure in what would become downtown Schenectadys core. During its early years as an agricultural community, Schenectady grew primarily through trade with other villages in upstate New York such as Auburn and Rome. However, during the late 19th century industrialization began to take hold throughout upstate New York and led to economic development in both rural areas and urban centers such as Buffalo and Syracuse. This transformation has had an important impact on contemporary society with major concerns including joblessness rates among recent college graduates; high levels of poverty; significantly increased traffic congestion; higher levels of pollution; declining birthrates; etc.. A number of iconic buildings have been erected within downtown Schenectadiys walls over the years including: The Empire State Building (1947), The Cooper Union (1892), First Niagara Bank building (1927), The John F Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum (1978). Additionally many famous artists have passed through or lived here including David Stone Martin (1906-1992),James Baldwin ( 1955-1988), Jay Lynch(1976-)
