Scarsdale, New York is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. The village of Scarsdale was disbanded on January 1, 2017 and all of its land became part of the Town of Nyack. The first settlement in this area was made by Dutch colonists in 1624 when they arrived on what is now the eastern border of Scarsdale. In 1814, John Drexel founded Drexel Institute in what is now Scarsdale after he bought a tract from Nicholas de Montresor for $5,000. Over time, other settlers followed suit until there were over 100 families living in Scarsdale by 1840. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), many soldiers called to fight were housed here at Fort Ticonderoga before being sent away again. On December 12th 1861 under Colonel James Seddon Ulysses S Grant's command as commander of Union forces west of Buffalo Niagara Falls General Order No 5 had been issued ordering all troops halted within 3 miles (5 km) radius without any exception; this order applied especially to soldiers serving in the Union army stationed east or north of Buffalo Niagara Falls due to fears that they would desert their units and join Confederate forces should war break out between those two groups. This order also applyed to military installations such as Fort Erie and Garrison Barracks which lay just outside present day Nyack Village limits on the east side of Seneca Lake between Castle Creek Road and Garrison Park Drive). As a result many soldiers who had volunteered for service here instead took up civilian life elsewhere within Western New York or even Pennsylvania where hostilities continued despite Yankee capitulation on April 9th 1865 Following the end of hostilities on April 9th 1865 all Union soldiers must have returned home except for those serving with cavalry units which were ordered back into action immediately As a result most people living in central Upstate NY left during that time period either heading west towardsPennsylvania or south towards Texas or Florida where homes were available . However some stayed behind including Mr & Mrs Crouse who moved into their house located off Elmwood Avenue just north Of Main Street after it burned down during an early winter storm in 1869/70 In 1875 Sherman tanks rolled through town taking everything away including their horses & mules then drove them off into nearby forest leaving behind only human remains Today much like years past there are few if any commercial establishments but plenty of local businesses such as several small grocery stores along Elmwood Ave., six hardware stores and one seed store among others . There are also three churches - Stathis Greek Orthodox Church #1 next door to Dogpatch Bakery and Eatery (& adjacent lot), First Presbyterian Church #2 across from Central Traffic Court/High School (& adjacent lot),& Christ Lutheran church which has been around since before 1800s (& adjoining lots). Finally there’s an extensive network Of Local Telephone Lines operated by Verizon Wireless billed “Verizon Wireless High Speed Internet” with speeds up to 150 Mbps! Scarsdale, New York is a small town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1793 by Scots-Irish refugees from Ireland who had fled to the area during the American Revolution. The name "Scarsdale" derived from Scranton Township in Munster County, Ireland. The first post office was established in 1812. In 1825, Scarsdale became a village and was incorporated as a town on December 12th of that year. The first mayor was John Ahern. In 1893, the townsite of Scarsdale was annexed by Buffalo and became part of that city's west side exclave within its limits. The Erie Canal passed through Scarsdale and it became an important transportation hub for goods coming out of Niagara Falls and upriver to Albany and Syracuse before reaching Buffalo at Lockport/Portage (now Canandaigua). This contributed to increased manufacturing activity around the canalboats yards along what is now Water Street in downtown Scarsdale; this also included much development along present day Elm Street north of Main Street including several banks and businesses dating back to at least 1830 (the oldest still standing building being what is now called Scotia Bank Building). In 1916-17 when World War I started with Austria-Hungary entering into war against Serbia, many local men volunteered their services and joined up with other patriotic organizations throughout eastern Canada or even abroad; these volunteers were known as “Oscarites” after one of Canada’s most wellknown Prime Ministers – Sir John Aird (1863–1940). Many residents left town for service but some returned home once hostilities ended without having lost any friends or family members serving overseas either directly or indirectly; however many buildings did not reoccupy their previous occupants until later years due largely to wartime destruction which caused such high levels of loss across multiple sectors including homes & businesses along with people jobs etc.; total losses amounted close to $1 millionUSD equivalent today .
