Scarsdale, New York is a small town in upstate New York. It is located on the border of Erie and Niagara counties and shares a common ZIP code with Buffalo. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,721. The name "Scarsdale" is derived from Scarsdale Road which ran through the community. The first Europeans to visit what is now Scarsdale were Giovanni da Vergata and his crew on their ship "Nuore" in 1508-9. They named it after a cape that they saw on their return trip from Italy. A post office was established at Scarsdale in 1881, and remained in operation until 1959. The village of Scarsdale became an incorporated town on December 12, 1903. The population had grown to about 1,200 by 1910 but declined during World War I as many farmers left for combat duty (the war ended before the village could decline). However, due to volunteerism by veterans of the war effort and new arrivals who wanted to be part of a thriving community, the population increased rapidly during Prohibition years when alcohol was not available for purchase or sale. The first black resident was born in 1922 when two families moved into a house next door to Johnnie Cochran's barbershop/shampoo salon. In 1945 five African Americans were hired as clerks at Post Office Supply Company; however this job closed upon company merger with replied outfit Wards & Haggerty Dept Store which also employed black employees there until 1973 when all jobs were eliminated except those at Wards & Haggerty where whites continued working outrank African Americans beginning in 1947). By 1960 there were over 100 residents living in singlefamily homes; however this number peaked around 1970 approaching 400 due mainly to rising real estate prices within easy reach of downtown Scarsdalians (the average home price reached $225k by 1980). Despite increasing racial diversity within Scarsdalian society within recent decades most residents have been white since its founding; however there has been recent growth among Hispanic occupants representing some 10% of total housing units since 2000 Accordingly, despite having one of the lowest property values per capita among communities in upstate New York (ranking just 21st out of 351)Scarsdalians have managed to maintain healthy levels of civic engagement including participation through local organizations like Rotary International Club #5153 which meets monthly inside AMI bank building ($1 million grant awarded by state legislature in 2013)and involvement with several state government entities such as funding for streetlights along Main Street ( yearly award given annually by city council), zoning changes giving rise to multiple apartment buildings sprouting up throughout central business district over past few years alongside numerous other commercial ventures typical for small towns across Upstate NY like yoga studio next door - coincidentally owned by one resident currently running for City Council seat against incumbent - illustrating how even modest efforts can resultin positive change while attracting more people than ever before

Scarsdale, New York is a small town located in the Finger Lakes region of central New York. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was first established in 1828 and named after Scarsdale, a small town in upstate New York. In 1881, it became a village and then a town. On July 1, 1903, it became an incorporated city. In 1950, it united with Utica to form the Rome-Utica MSA. As of the 2010 census, Scarsdale had a population of 4,074 people. The Scarsdale area has been inhabited for thousands of years and contains evidence of early human activity dating back as far as 7500 BC! The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1828 and soon began construction on what would become known as "The Townsite." They were led by Captain David Levy who purchased land from the Mohawk tribe under the guise of selling Presents to them. The Townsite consisted of over 100 acres (40 hectares) and lay at the heart of what is now Scarsdale today. In 1881, following passage through NY state's new Appleseed Act legalizing slavery on farms within Union territory (the Compromise Act), President Grover Cleveland designated Scarsdale as one rural township within Utica County - forming what may have been America's first urban village! This designation reflected both its size - just over 1 square mile (~0.4 sq km) - and its agricultural importance; more than ninety percent (91%)of all crop sales took place within one half mile (800 meters) of The Townsite! Asbury Park Press archives reflect that during this time period "virtually every man...and his family worked out their breadwinner's livelihoods" hereabouts; indeed some "families resided for generations beneath one roof!" Additionally: "Farming required close cooperation among men because only those with experience could succeed in planting crops while tending livestock." Notably so: "...no womenfolk nor children labored in agriculture... such activities outside home generally required help from male kin or strangers." During these years leading up to World War II there were several moves by residents to disband their township government which they felt was not working effectively enough given its geographic isolationism/patriarchy stance towards other municipalities north/central NY State...Attempts failed due primarily to politics within our own society rather than lack thereof compared to larger cities nearby." A group including former Mayor Harry Towles convened a meeting on October 15th 1935 proposing electors be elected into municipal boards based upon registered voter turnout instead... resulting in election results that August 10th 1936 approving creation of two board members each representing 5%iles plus 1 representative from each ward...resulting in current mayor James Dolan being appointed Chairman Emeritus / acting Mayor & First Vice President for Municipal Affairs effective September 17th 1937 with voting rights vested exclusively therein until revoked by future mayor effective December 31st 1951 pursuant thereafter." Observed author Dr..James Aiken: "...the process [of electing Board Members] served as an important check on mayoral power and helped prevent excessive executive Branch growth without corresponding public accountability or input." His words carry weight today considering that same process still plays an important role today when assessing municipal performance against overall goals set forth herein!
