The American Revolution began on April 19, 1775, when colonial revolutionaries in New York raised an insurgency against British rule. On July 25 of that year, the first Provincial Congress was convened in Albany to plan and raise an army to fight the British. The congress decided to send 1,500 men under General George Washington to support the uprising. After a few months of training and skirmishing in upstate New York, Washington's force reached Boston on October 15th. After a bloody battle near Bunker Hill, where several thousand British soldiers were killed or captured, the Americans drove the invaders back into Canada. The victory at Bunker Hill marked the beginning of what would be a long and arduous war against Great Britain. In addition to their military contribution during the revolution, many New Yorkers also donated money and goods for the cause. In Rye, for example, merchants donated swords and pistols as well as food supplies such as flour and butter. These donations helped contribute significantly to America's success during the war.

Rye is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is derived from the ancient and historic site of Rye Point on the southern tip of Long Island. In 1836, rye farming became an important industry in Rye due to its location on Long Island's east coast; it continued to be so until after World War II when more land was developed for cereal crops. The original settlers in Rye were farmers who arrived around 1795. They were mainly Dutch and Irish immigrants who had come overLAND from what is now Holland and North America. One of the first stores in Rye was opened by John Graves Simonds in 1824. At that time there were only six families living within a radius of three miles of where we now stand. By 1830 rye farming had become an important industry because it grew high quality dry hay which could be shipped anywhere on Long Island due to its instability during wet seasons. The early residents built their homes using logs or plankton-covered ditches as foundation trenches and used smallpox inoculations to prevent disease from spreading among themselves too easily since they didn't know how to cultivate plants successfully without help from others. In 1836, a group of investors led by Andrew Dickson purchased 9 acres (3 hectares) near present day downtown Rye for $1 per acre (€0.50 per square metre). This property would later become known as Dickson's Landing because Andrew Dickson landed there with his family upon his purchase two years earlier in 1835.. After some construction work and some testing, Dickson's Landing became operational as a trading post called "Dickson's Ferry" on July 15th, 1837 serving sailboats coming into Long Island Sound.[2] It was soon renamed "Rye" after one of its early pioneers - John Aiken – because he offered financial support for the new community’s development along with his boatbuilding skills[1]. During Reconstruction era (1865-1913), rye production increased significantly thanks to advances made in irrigation techniques and usage of synthetic fertilizers brought over by American farmers during this period; however, during World War I production stopped entirely due to price controls set by President Woodrow Wilson following the war’s outbreak[4]. After Prohibition ended in 1919, many farmers abandoned rye farming throughout New York State but continued operations scattered around upstate New York until the mid-20th century when all but one mill closed down[5]. In 1951,RYE took its place asakespearean center for artistry located just outside Schenectady City limits[6], providing much needed economic opportunity for people surrounding the borough since many mills closed down shortly thereafter including most businesses inside Schenectady city limits rendering them unable or unwilling to reopen after prohibition ended although many continue operation today both locally & remotely
