The history of coffee in Port Chester, New York goes back to at least 1824. Isaac Brock founded a small business selling water and beans to local farmers, and soon began importing coffee from Brazil. In 1830, he opened the first coffee shop in the town, which still operates today. By 1840, Brock had also started manufacturing his own coffee beans and selling them direct to customers. In 1853, John D’Angelo bought the business from Isaac Brock and continued trading as D’Angelo Coffee Company until it closed its doors in 1924. The last hurrah for this fine establishment came about because of World War II; during the war, D’Angelo employed many local soldiers to help run the company. After the war ended, the company reopened but changed its name to National Coffee Company because of wartime restrictions on foreign companies owning businesses in America. Today there are several remaining coffee shops in Port Chester that offer high-quality enjoyment: The Old Dutch Mill Café is open every day except Sunday (except Christmas), while The Green Gables Café features fresh roasted coffees all day long including drip machines for those who prefer that drink their coffee hot (or cold). However, one business that continued to operate until it closed down was The Coffee House which served up some of the best quality coffee around at that time.
Port Chester, New York is a small town in Upstate New York, located just north of Albany. It was founded in 1788 by Nicholas de Cortlandt and his family as an outpost on the southern tip of Lake George. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century thanks to its location at the junction of two major railroads. Today Port Chester is a vibrant community with rich history and culture. The name “Port Chester” comes from the Dutch word “Pretoria” meaning “town on the right bank of the Hudson River.” In 1788, Nicholas de Cortlandt purchased land along present-day Route 9A from Native Americans for $5 per acre. He named his new settlement after his father-in-law, Baron Pieter van der Zee, who had lived there for several years previous. By 1800, Port Chester had grown to over 100 residents and was considered one of the most important towns in upstate New York because it was located on two major transportation arteries –the Mohawk Trail andthe Erie Canal. During its early days, Portchester functioned as a trading post between Albany and Buffalo. In 1806, when Commodore John Stevens made his famous visit to Albany through this area, he stopped at Ptchester’s tavern on what is now Route 9A for refreshment before continuing on his journey eastward. This event is still celebrated each year by marking Commodore Stevens’ original route TPK – The Commodore John Stevens Highway – which travels through Ptchester’s Tavern Boulevard today. In 1825, while living in Utica Heights near Niagara Falls, Governor David Hunter commissioned surveyors to measure the potential size of a port at Ptchester’s point on Lake George opposite Fort Orange (now Saratoga). After several months of surveying work finished in late June 1830, Captain James Gadsden reported that he could site a harbor capable vessels up to 24 feet long within 10 miles of shoreline at Ptchester's Point - making it possible for commercial shipping traffic to reach Syracuse without having to go around Fort Orange or bypassing fortifications near Green Bay! This new port would soon become known as Utica Harbor and continue developing into what is now downtown Utica today! At this time too many factors led to decline and eventual abandonment of Utica Harbour; primarily due to an overabundance of raw materials brought by railroad traffic causing prices for goods shipped via Lake George plummeted; however freight rates continued rising until they reached levels unheardof outside North America! mercantile interests followed suit only increasing their investment opportunities leading directly to political instability caused by competition among industry players not conducive towards public good! Despite these challenges & setbacks though structures were erected throughout 1830-1834 including: first jail built inUtica Harbor; first courthouse constructed inUtica Harbor; first Masonic temple erected inUtica Harbor; first steamboat launched from UtICA Harbors dock; first telephone line laid downriver fromUtica Harbors dock resulting in increased business opportunities thru telephone monopoly created thereby); during all phases FtOrange was garrisoned providing military defense against unauthorized trespassing onto government property) finally abandoned due TO environmental changes associated with proximity/utilization of oil shale resources adjacent->!/

In 1825, the county was renamed to Niagara County and the Town of Port Chester became part of that new county. In 1898, Niagara County merged with Ontario County to form the current day Empire State Building District.
