The United States Army has been present in Plattsburgh since the Revolutionary War. The first U.S. military installation in the town was Fort George on the east side of the Mohawk River, which was established in 1776 as part of General George Washington's effort to protect his capital, Philadelphia. The fort served as a headquarters for both Washington and British forces during the war. In 1801, Congress passed an act appropriating $30,000 for the erection of a new army barracks in Plattsburgh. The barracks were completed in 1804 and became known asFort Drum Annex. In 1815, Congress authorized the construction of a second army barracks – this time on land reserved by Plattsburgh residents – named Fort Sullivan. The fort served as Headquarters of both armies during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In 1861, after Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina, President Abraham Lincoln called for all Americans to assemble at Gettysburg to receive instruction from their southern allies about how to fight against secessionists. over 4 million people marched through Plattsburgh to participate in what is now known as America's largest civil disobedience campaign ever! After the Civil War ended, soldiers from both sides lingered in Plattsburgh until 1865 when they departed for various posts around the country. By 1870, however, there remained only men living in downtownPlattsburgh and one small schoolhouse left within walking distance of most citizens; by 1915 there were no buildings remaining standing other than private homes and businesses on Broadway Street between Commercial and Armory Avenues). Army installations closed throughout New York state following World War II; it was not until 1949 that Fort Drum reopened as an artillery post once again serving local residents rather than army personnel only (the original fort had been decommissioned after World War II). In 1957 another armament post – Ft Benning – opened adjacent to Ft Drum; Benning eventually became home to two infantry brigades and three artillery batteries before being sold off to Georgia Tech students in 1984 (the guns still stand today at Tech Center Park!). A new era began with reactivation of Ft Drum’s Battery A(K) – later redesignated Battery M1A2 – effective January 1st 1959 under command of Brigadier General James Wyer who replaced Lt Col Charles Coker who had been commandant at Ft Drum since its opening days back during Reconstruction period! This battery acted primarily as support fire support unit providing theater level firepower while also engaging targets located beyond range using mortars/artillery or air strikes utilizing Bofors Gunboats/Lasers against selected targets located ashore or afloat……….in short WWI like action movie set action take place here daily!! What a beautiful history lesson we are privileged enough todayto live experience…..

Plattsburgh, New York is a small town located in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. The population was 1,643 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Mohawk Valley region. The town has been inhabited since 1784 by the Plattburgh Indians and until 1814 it was part of Albany County. During the Revolutionary War, Plattsburgh played an important role as a military outpost and ammunition depot on the approaches to Lake George. In 1814, when Albany County was split into two parts, Plattsburgh became part of Sullivan County and remained so until 1800. On December 8, 1825, a group of lawyers from Rochester (now in Monroe County) founded what would become known as The Law School at Plattsburgh. In 1830–31, Judge John Gould opened a court in the old Indian Fort on what is now Main Street. This courthouse remains standing today and is used as a museum for local history buffs. The first post office in Plattsburgh was established on February 14, 1824; it was discontinued on July 10th of that year because there were no mail coachesavailable to carry packages between Albany and Plattsburgh! In 1827–28, however, Daniel Webster delivered his famous speech at Chatham Hall which helped spur development within the town limits; this led to increased business activity and more people moving into town from outlying farms or villages around it – though some residents did still live off hunting rights or other natural resources…. By 1870-71 only about one-third of all business transactions took place within the limits of Plattsbourg itself; but commercialism had begun to take root beyond its borders thanks to various transportation improvements brought about by railwaysroads…. In 1898-99 construction began on First Presbyterian Church (now Stroudsburg United Methodist), one of several large evangelical churches built during that period in response to Pietist movements sweeping America following Unitarian conversions throughout much of Europe…. After decades long planning and fundraising efforts by church members themselves spearheaded by congregation president James Buchanan Macdonald III along with contributions from millowners such as Abram Noyes and George McClure….Plattenburg finally got its own public school system through Act 1009 passed by New York State Assembly on October 5th 1899….. However Justices Seymour Brownell (appointed by Governor Brinson)and Edwin Sutherland dissented from Act 1009’s entire provisions imposing state funding upon school districts while maintaining that platted townships should not have their own schools….. Ultimately Justice Brownell’s dissenting opinion led to an unconstitutional consolidation plan which merged many existing village/township schools into one district under control of then Superintendent William LaughlinGould….It wasn’t until 1922 when Education Department head Benjamin Silliman ordered all remaining village/township schools closed down effective January 1st after concluding that they were “no longer compatible with continued existence as educational institutions for young people”…..Today platted townships are still allowed limited access to state funded education via vouchers which allows them greater autonomy than municipal districts although this arrangement has come under increasing criticism due mainlyto problems with governance effectiveness……Congresswoman Barbara Lee offered her support for legislation proposed last year called The Townships Voucher Program which would give these communities direct access to state funds for education purposes provided they maintain certain eligibility requirements including having property owner approval for any new building OR having their residents engage in extramural economic activities……………………………………… Only four villages/township remain in Sullivan County: North Platteville (northwest corner), West Seneca Falls (southwest corner), Easton (northeast corner), while South Glens Falls resides entirely within Chenango county…………………

The Romans also fielded huge armies and are known for their conquests in the Mediterranean region. The town of Plattsburgh, New York is located in the Adirondack Mountains, about an hour east of Albany, the state capital. The population was 5,531 at the 2010 census. Plattsburgh was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1624 and became a part of the Province of New York under English rule in 1664. It was renamed Plattsburgh after General George Washington's birthplace in 1786. In 1814, it became a part of what is now Vermont. The town was burned by British troops during the American Revolution on July 4, 1776, and again on October 7th as part of the Battle of Saratoga. The town resumed its original name after Confederation in 1787 when New York lost its status as a province and became a part of the United States. In 1802-1803, Plattsburgh served as headquarters for Ulysses S Grant during his campaigns against Native Americans known collectively as the Black Hawk War. By 1825, Plattsburgh had become one of five towns within New York State that were still governed by magistrates or "courts." These courts were abolished following Governor John Aiken's removal of all Revolutionary-era officials from office in 1827 following his term as governor. It took until 1861 for residents to approve incorporation into a city; however, incorporation did not take place until 1865 when platted streets were laid out and Volunteer Fire Department organized (the first municipally owned fire department in America). During World War II most industry shifted from agriculture to munitions production; howeverARMaments production ended abruptly after Pearl Harbor because Japan had already fallen into war with America and no allies could be obtained to help protect them. Post-war growth focused on health care services followed by tourism beginning in 1951 which continues to this day although some manufacturing has returned since then including plastics manufacture which is set up near downtownPlattsburgh thanks to cheap labor imports from China
