The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History in Peekskill, New York on December 3rd, 1951. The gift history event was a congratulatory ceremony for the new unit that had just been activated from the inactive National Defense Reserve Fleet at Kings Point Naval Station. The gift history event honored and celebrated the heroism of those who had served in the air force and their dedication to country. Theift history opens with remarks by Major General James Doolittle. He reminisces about his service as an airman in World War II and how it has shaped his life today as a general officer with the U.S. Air Force. Next, Lieutenant Colonel John E Fenton presented Commander James L Snyder with a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber aircraft for use in aerial reconnaissance operations over Japan during World War II. This gift was part of Operation “Lucky” which was an effort to increase American troop morale by providing combat opportunities for young men across Japan while satisfying America's military needs without actually fighting in war itself. This act of philanthropy demonstrated America's commitment to its allies during this time period and helped contribute towards Washington's diplomatic successes during these difficult years. In addition to honoring America's wartime veterans, this event also showcased local dignitaries from throughout Peekskill including Mayor Harry Carbonell, Congressman Nicholas Scannella, State Senator Charles Schumer, Dragan Djordjevic (Mayor), Msgr Geraldine Ferraro (State Senator) and Mrs John Kappelhof (Dame). These guests were part of a delegation that traveled to Tokyo for ceremonies marking Day 9 of Japan’s occupation leading up to its formal surrender on September 2nd 1945 which ended World War II officially at atomic bombing strength! It was an amazing opportunity for all involved to see first hand some of the accomplishments accomplished during this tragic era which left millions dead or injured including many within our own community!

Peekskill is a small town in upstate New York, located about an hour and a half outside of Albany. The population was 7,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Capital District. Peek's Kill (a word meaning "to trip") is a large open space in central Peek, bordered by the village of Westville to the north and east, and by Woodstock to the south. The first European settlers arrived in 1781, when Jonas Spafford set foot on what is now town property. Settlers from Connecticut built their homes near East Lake George while others established themselves around Great Lakes Road (now Route 9) in what is now west Peek. By 1800, there were twenty families living in what are today west and northeast Peekites called North Creek Road (now Route 9A). That same year saw another settler arrive—John Packer—when he purchased two-thirds interest in The Paper Mill from Nicholas Fenton for $1,000 cash. In 1802–1803, John Packer erected a small log cabin on his farmstead known as “Packer’s Landing” where he raised crops until 1815 when he sold out to Gideon VanCampen who built him a larger home known as “VanCampen’s Landing” which still stands today on Main Street between Center Drive and First Avenue South. One hundred years later that structure was demolished along with much of downtown Peek when developer Harry Wexler tore down all but one block of Main Street between First Avenue South and Center Drive during his construction of Interstate 90 across town in the early 1950s. In 1865 Nahum Goldwater became sheriff of western New York after being elected as a delegate to the Republican National Convention held at Syracuse; goldwater soon thereafter relocated his family to what would become Peekskill following his election victory over Democrat Andrew Johnson Jr.. A post office was established at Peekskill on December 12th, 1867 under ZIP code 14043; mail service began operating from this location on May 1st 1870 On July 4th 1861 local resident Cornelius Vanderbilt obliged President Abraham Lincoln with an offer for three thousand acres (one hectare) immediately east of present day Peekskill Villagelimits – land that had been donated by Augustus Willcox – forming what would become Westchester County within nine months time Israel Putnam became US Consul General at Batavia after arriving there February 10th 1865; Putnam recommended purchasing land contiguous with present day village limits forATS purposes so that these new immigrants could be Included therein under one roof However due to various political boundaries changes resultant from war effort exemptions granted/denied by subsequent administrations various parcels including portion beyondpresent day village limits were included or excised altogether puttingatively 2 villages sprung up side by side herein named respectively Van Campen's Landing & Greenbelt Hawthorne Heights formed circa 1909 immediately adjacent thereto becoming finally incorporated into currentVillage Limits only upon expiration date aforementioned thereof thereby satisfying both residents (& developers) aforementioned entities always proclaiming Hawthorne Heights either municipally administered or exempting it forever having no affect whatsoever whatsoever Upon annexation & incorporation into Village Limits it reverted back again unto its original name aforesaid thereby fulfilling its promise made aforesaid also satisfying residents aforementioned entities insofar as no further action shall be required herein save occasional curiosity ;)
