Patchogue, New York was home to one of the first commercial coffee shops in the United States. The shop, which is now known as Joe's Coffee House, opened its doors on October 1, 1847. At that time, coffee was still a rarity and only available to those who could afford it. The coffee shop was started by two entrepreneurs named John Dibble and Amos Kendall. The first cup of Joe's Coffee House-branded coffee was made in March of 1848. It sold for $1 per pound and consisted of a small amount of roasted beans. Joe's Coffee House continued to be operation until 1861 when it closed its doors due to financial problems. However, the store's legacy continues on today as one of Patchogue's most popular tourist attractions. In 2013, Joe's Coffee House was inducted into the New York State Historic Preservation Authority’s “Hall of Fame” program for its contribution to New York’s history.

In the early 1800s, Patchogue was a small town in upstate New York. The community was started by Dutch immigrants and quickly became an important stop on the Long Island Railroad. In 1855, Patchogue incorporated as a village and began to grow rapidly. By 1901, the population had reached 2,500 people and it continued to grow until 1925 when it peaked at 4,000 residents. After that point, the population slowly decreased until it stopped growing altogether in 2001. Today, Patchogue remains a small town with a few thousand residents.
Patchogue, New York is a town located in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 12,818 at the 2000 census. Patchogue is part of the Boston metropolitan area. It is bordered by Winthrop to the north, Needham to the east, and Quincy to the south. The townsite was first settled in 1795 by Captain John Smith and his group of colonists as part of what would become Westchester County. In 1824, Patchogue became a separate town under legislation adopted by New York State's General Assembly. On July 1, 1866, Patchogue became a city when it ratified an act granting city rights pursuant to the Organic Act of New York City. Patchesville Road runs through much of Patchogue - starting at Main Street (present-day Route 38) and running northwest until it reaches its terminus at Northport Avenue - one of several streets that make up Threadneedle Avenue. The other streets are: Park Place (now Wellesley Drive), Clinton Boulevard (now Putnam Lane), Ipswich Road (now Vernon Boulevard), Old Lyme Road (now Morse Way), South Weymouth Road (now Jericho Turnpike), East Weymouth Road (now Southampton Pike). In 1822 John Rolfe built his sawmill on Long Island Sound which continues today as Rolfe Mills LLC. Located in downtown Patchogue next to First Presbyterian Church on Elm Street are a number of smaller mills which continue operations today including: Dunhams Lumber & Mill Co., Goodyear Lumber & Mfg., Hometown Lumber Co., Browning Manufacturing Company and Witherspoon Spring Steel Works Incorporated - all still active businesses with their own buildings and employees!

Patchogue is a town in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. Patchogue is part of the North Shore of Long Island. The name "Patchogue" derives from the Algonquian word "pa-chōgēwiska," meaning "place where there is a small stream." The first European to visit what is now Patchogue was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 and he named it Nantucket after his ship, Nautilus. In 1609 James Montresor settled here with his brother-in-law Sir George Clinton and began trading with the local Native Americans. In 1611 John Winthrop came here and built a house on the present site of modern day Patchogue Park on495th Street which remained his residence until 1777 when he sold it to Nicholas Biddle. On March 3, 1781, during the American Revolutionary War, William Howe's army landed at Saybrook Neck and destroyed many homes in Patchogue before moving on to Nassau County. In 1827 Isadore Payne started a sawmill that still stands in downtown Patchogue today. Payne also founded Payne Brothers Department Store which anchored Main Street for over 100 years until 1971 when it merged into JCPenney Stores Incorporated (JCP). On October 1st 1905 an act to create villages within areas already established as towns or cities in New York State was passed by the New York State Legislature; this act created municipalities known as Towns of Babylon (now Farmingdale), East Hampton, Great Lakes Village (later Lakewood) and Patchogue village ("the new patch"). On November 5th 1915 Edison Parish absorbed all but one hamlet within easternmost Brooklyn Township - Amityville - forming today's Borough of East Hampton On December 12th 1945 World War II veteran Clifford Berry set up home at 6362 Post Road later renamed 7180 Crescent Drive near what is now Appleton Place - this property became Today's Tyson's Farm Incorporated berries production farmsteads & apple orchard valued at $2 millionToday patches ofBerry Farms land are located around NY City limits In 1951 Revlon opened its first store in America outside of Europe; however Store No 2 closed soon afterwards due to competition from Sears Roebuck & Co., who had opened their stores nationwide that year Patchogue incorporated as a borough on April 14th 1959 under then Borough President Robert Haggerty Jr.; Borough Council meetings were held at Prospect Hall until 1966 when municipal services were moved to First Presbyterian Church on Main Street where they remain today . The town of Patchogue, New York was chartered on December 26, 1786 by Captain John Montresor. It was named after the port of Patroclus in Greece. The first settler in Patchogue was Nicholas Fenton. In 1810, a post office was established at Patchogue and it remained in operation until 1916. On October 15, 1892, the name of the town changed from Patchogue to Yarmouth after Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt's visit to that community.
