When thePatchogue community first came together in 1892, there were no military stationed in town. However, soon after, a small detachment of New York Volunteers was sent to help with the Mexican-American War. In 1898, when America became involved in World War I, Patchogue officially became part of the United States Army and a artillery battery was stationed here. In 1923, as World War II approached, another battery of artillery was stationed here; however it wasn't until 1941 that an Air Force installation began to be located in Patchogue. Since then, Patchogue has seen various deployments and operations: two Marines fought on Okinawa during World War II; the USMC currently maintains an airfield here; and most recently the Army's 1st Battalion Combat Infantry Regiment (1/1) deployed here for Operation Inherent Resolve. Today, Patchogue is home to over 60 military installations across New York State and U.S. troops are still based here – making it one of the most militarized communities in all of America! And this isn't just because of its location on Long Island Sound – since 1971, Patchogue has been home to The National Guard Armory which can hold up to 25000 people!

Patchogue, New York is a small town in the town of Southold on Long Island. The population was 2,857 at the 2010 census. It is known for its many Vineyards and Brewery. Patchogue was first settled by Dutch farmers in 1624. The name of the town originates from "Pactuca". In 1884, Patchogue voters approved a charter to form a village, which became Patchogue Village on November 15, 1885. On May 3, 1907, Patchogue Village achieved city status when it passed an act of the New York State Legislature. The village had a population of 438 people as of the 2000 census. The first vineyard in patchogue was established in 1792 by Cornelius Vanderbilt and his brother-in-law samuel Smith. Samuel Smith later sold his share to John Claflin who founded Claflin Vineyards in 1828 with vines that he had brought over from California. By 1830, there were twenty-eight winevineyards located throughout Suffolk County and five within one mile of Patchogue Village itself! In 1850s Jens Jensen opened two wineries – Jensen’s Malting Works and Jensen’s Cellars – making him one of the early winegrowers in Suffolk County. These wineries produced some high quality wines that continue to be popular today including their signature red Heineken brand beer! In 1907, when Patchogue Village attained city status, it had a population of 438 people (of whom 256 were women). At this time there were also thirteen grocery stores and four post office boxes located within walking distance of downtown Patchogue village center; as well as twelve restaurants (six formal/four casual). Today most residents commute into the larger towns on Long Island or Manhattan but there are still several businesses open late into the night including three hair salons/day spas! DowntownPatchogue has been renovated numerous times over the years with new shops and more residential development but retains much of its historic charm while becoming increasingly commercialized
