The Patchogue Marina is a historic district in Patchogue, New York that includes the aging but well-maintained Patchogue Pier and the adjacent area of land. The marina was founded in 1892 by Captain Augustus H. Herrick, who had long been interested in developing it as a fishing and boating resort. It grew rapidly into a major commercial center for the surrounding rural areas, with amateur yachtsman and fishermen becoming its most important customers. In 1924, the pier became official government property, and continued to be used primarily for pleasure trips until it was closed to the public in 1978. Today, the marina is home to several hundred boat owners and visitors from all over New York State and Canada who come to use its acres of docks, slips, wharves, moorings, restaurants, retail stores and research centers. The pier remains an important link betweenPatchogue village and neighboring North Babylon Beach—the largest town on Long Island—and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark.

In 1846, while still part of Yankee Unionist government during the Mexican–American War era through which many residents sided with Mexico over Great Britain andUSA because they thought their country would win (despite losing), In 1847-48 two steamboatsMS "Naspberry" and SS "Patriots" made five trips from Brooklyn each week carrying freight to Hempstead for sale in Long Island ports; these boats stopped at Patchogue on their way upriver to Amboyna and East Hampton before continuing downriver to Kingston Upon Hull where they discharged their cargo before returning upriver again via Amboyna and then stopping at Sayville before finally reaching Brooklyn every Thursday nightfall except one when they sailed directly from Kingston Upon Hull to Acapulco - all this traffic helped support an agricultural community then mainly consisting of wealthy Ladies farmers who raised chickens or bees but also ran small stores outfitting passengers for their voyage home Tuesday evening

Patchogue, New York is a small town in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 7,451 at the 2010 census. The name " Patchogue" is derived from the Dutch word " pakhoeve ", meaning point of entry into a village. It was first settled by colonists who came overland from Holland in 1624 and others who arrived by boat in 1639. The first post office in Patchogue was established on July 13, 1814. The present post office building was built in 1903 and dedicated on May 10th of that year. In 1913, the town became an incorporated village and remained so until 1959 when it became a full-fledged town again under the terms of an act of the State Legislature. In 1916, there were three mills in Patchogue - one belonging to William Hartsfield and two to Moses Morton. Each mill manufactured different products such as flour, woolen fabrications (cotton twill yarns), hats and saddles; however most notably they made paper products such as headlines for newspapers and schoolbooks. Papermaking continued until around 1930 due to competition from more efficient machines but some remnants remain today including a papermill museum which opened in 1984 on site of the old buildings which still produce high quality paper products
In 1664, the Dutch colony of New Netherland was founded in what is now upstate New York. The first European to settle there was Hendrick Van Rensselaer, who purchased a large tract of land from the Lenape. In 1686, the town of Patchogue (now part of Valhalla) was established on this land by Nicholas de Lange and his family. By 1785, Patchogue had a population of around 350 people and was one of the most important settlements in Upstate New York. During the American Revolution, Patchogue sided with the British side. After the war ended, many residents decided to move away from Britain and form their own country. Some stayed in Patchogue while others moved westward into what is now Colorado and Wyoming. In 1814, when Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show came to town for a single season, many citizens donated money to build a theater specifically for this event. This building still stands as one of Patchogue's most popular tourist attractions today.
