The Oswego Naval Shipyard was established in 1884 and has been responsible for the construction of a number of warships over the years. Oswego, New York is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the west side of the north-central portion of Chenango County. It borders Sleepy Hollow to the south and east and Clinton Township to the north. The first white inhabitant of Oswego was Nicholas Wright in 1786. He married a woman from Kingston, New York and they moved to what is now Oswego in 1792. In 1803, Wright's family sold their land to an Englishman named John Haddock for $4,000 cash. Haddock built a cabin on his land and named it "Oswego." He served as Town Clerk from 1807 until his death in 1825. In 1827, two men named Elisha Aiken bought some of Haddock's land for $6 per acre. They began farming it and changed the name of their cabin to "Aiken's Falls." In 1830, they sold their holdings to George Fenton for $40 per acre. Fenton started trading goods with Canada and decided he needed more space so he built a small house on his property which became known as "Fenton's Castle." In 1840, another man named Augustus Kelley bought some of Fenton's lands for $10 per acre. Kelley began farming them and changed the name of his cabin to "Kelley's Landing." In 1847/48, he sold all his holdings except one parcel that he continued farming until 1861 when it was taken over by Washburne & Company who renamed it "Oswego Mill". In 1865/66 General Electric Company built its first electric line between Syracuse (New York) and Binghamton (New York). Oswego saw its first commercial development when Denny Brothers established a grocery store there in 1896 called ""Denny Bros."" Gourmet grocery store opened up in 1998 under current ownership by Dundee Development Corporation which still operates as part of Denny Bros Grocery chain today By 1920 there were only 10 residents living in OsweGO with just 1 blacksmith shop left open due largely to segregation during that time period . After World War II many African Americans came into town looking for work during agricultural shortages caused by war efforts leaving behind immense amounts of social upheaval following relocation events such as chain migration As population growth resumed within reach whites vacated older neighbourhoods giving rise primarily to single family homes while lower income apartments sprung up around schools serving mainly inner city students who would then commute out or use public transportation

Oswego is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the larger Oswego-Oneida-Poughkeepsie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to see what would become Oswego was Giovanni da Verrazzano on July 4th, 1524 when he landed in present day Chenango County and saw a "greater land than any he had seen before." He named it Isola della Contea di Ossiningo after his patron Countess Barbara d'Este who had been with him on this trip. A post office called Ossiningo was established in 1795, and remained in operation until 1813. The town was platted by Jacob Niles in 1814. The first schoolhouse was built there in 1815. The area now known as Oswego became part of Chenango County under the Ohio River Treaty of 1795 which made New York State a part of the U.S.A.; however, it reverted to Albany County until 1913 when it became a part of New York City again following the creation of that city's boroughs; finally, it became an incorporated village on June 14th, 1923 when all its municipalities were merged into one general election under the name of "Oswego".
