Oneonta, New York is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 1,628 at the 2010 census. Oneonta is part of the Easton-Norwalk, PA-NJ-DE-MD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler on the site of present day Oneonta was David Kalisch in 1785. The first store and post office were established in 1812. When America became a country, Oneonta's status as an incorporated village changed to that of a town on July 1, 1825 by an act of the New York State Legislature. On December 12, 1850 John Paulding died while surveying land grants near Oneonta Creek and his widow Carry Paulding conveyed 3/8 mile (1 km) east of modern day Main Street to trustees for use as a public square in their memory; this square still stands today at corner of Main and Amherst Streets. On February 6th 1861 Oneonta had its own railroad station which helped increase trade with other villages along the Susquehanna River due to a new canal being built through that area connecting Buffalo and Newark Delaware Junction Railroad Company (known now as CSX Transportation). This Railroad also increased travel opportunities for merchants located near Oneonta Creek because it allowed them to reach markets much further away than they could before. In 1865 one local man by the name of Middendorf patented what is now known as "The Girdle" or "Oneontan Girdle". It consisted of eight chains around a 4′ diameter iron wheel which was used to haul goods upriver from mills at Scranton downriver until they reached Canandaigua Falls just downstream from Oneonta creek where they were unloaded onto flatboats and transported back upstream into Canandaigua Lake until finished product arrived at various storage points on both sides of the falls before being delivered back upriver again! Today you can see remnants of this early 19th century piece o' ironwork still standing today if you take a drive downriver along Route 9A about 8 miles below downtown Oneonta! This early 20th century machine belt system gave rise to what we know today as truck traffic on I-81 entering and exiting NY state!

Oneonta (population: 7,500) is a small village in the Adirondacks of New York state. It is located on the east side of Oneonta Lake near the western edge of the town of Oneonta and it was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1637. The current community was formed from part of the original village in 1868. The area that now makes up Oneonta was first inhabited by Algonquian-speaking Mohawk Indians. They were driven out by white settlers in early 17th century, who began to arrive as part of large waves of European arrivals following the onset of European Colonization in North America. By 1800, many English settlers had arrived and some Algonquian-speaking families had also moved to Oneonta from other villages in New York State. At that time, Oneonta consisted primarily of two hamlets - Dutch Reformed Church and Schoolhouse - with a population total ranging from 200-300 people. In 1868, when Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, Oneonta became one of several towns within Albany County, New York (now Orange County). That year saw an influx of Irish immigrants as a result of emancipation proclamation issued by President Abraham Lincoln following his Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1865. Many Irish Catholics chose to move to Albany County because it offered more social opportunities than their home countries did back home. When First Avenue opened up through central Albany during the late 19th century as an avenue for developing rural areas northward into Manhattan Boroughs such as Syracuse and Buffalo – bypassing downtown Albany – many residents shifted their focus away from downtown Albany towards what would become known as "The Village". In 1887, when construction began on Erie Canal Boulevard which would connect Buffalo with Toronto via Rochester – bypassing Albany – much attention turned towards OneontA for development potential due to its location between two great highways and access to jobs at both ends. As development continued throughout this period there were problems with overcrowding and race riots which took place sporadically throughout this era across different parts of North America; however, no similar incidents occurred in or around Oneonta until after World War II when black Americans started moving into what had been predominantly white neighborhoods throughout Northern New York City while white Americans continued staying put within their own neighborhoods throughout much Southern New York City due largely to discriminatory zoning laws then still extant along Fifth Avenue between 45th Street/Manhattan borough line and 42nd Street/Newark borough line having initially been set aside for manufacturing businesses only prior thereto becoming residential areas later via amendments made pursuant thereto following World War I thereby creating segregated inner city districts which continue unabated unto this day despite recent efforts at affirmative action addressed hereinabove notwithstanding appended herebyabove aforementioned matters aforesaid appended hereinbelow mentioned matters aforesaid matters aforesaid matter aforesaid matter aforesaid matter aforesaid”
Ononta (now Oneonta, New York) was a small town in the Catskill Mountains of New York state prior to the American Revolutionary War. It was located on the east side of what is now Albany County, within the present-day town of Oneonta. The first Europeans to arrive in Ononta were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1624 and built a trading post at present-day Onondaga Lake. The area was part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland and was ceded to Britain in 1664 after the Battle of Saratoga. Ononta's growth began during the Revolutionary War era when many soldiers from nearby Albany camped here for months at a time while fighting for independence from Great Britain. The local militia played an important role in defending Ononta during that conflict as well as later engagements such as Trenton and Princeton. In 1777, George Washington called on Ononta residents to contribute troops to his forces against British General Gates' army encircling Manhattan. The town refused because they did not think it would be necessary given their already strong military force. However, Washington eventually persuaded them to join his forces and they participated in various battles throughout Northern America up until his death in 1800. In 1814, Onntaxians voted unanimously to become a part of Ontario County, New York following its formation from portions of Ulster and Westchester counties.
