In the early years, Gourmet Coffee was run by three friends – Bob Cook, Dick Codey and Jerry Fenton – who decided to sell their morning light coffee only to locals and tourists. The first time that Gourmet Coffee saw action was on November 15th, 1971 when it opened its doors to the public. The coffee shop quickly became one of the most popular in town with regulars from all over New York City. The popularity of Gourmet Coffee led to other businesses opening up around town including a bakery, a pizza place and now another coffee shop – this time called Gourmet Cafe! Throughout the years, Gourmet Coffee has been an important part of the community in Oneonta. It has given back to local residents through donations such as giving away free coffee beans each year during National Coffee Day (May 12th).
