Oneonta, New York is a small town in upstate New York that has been home to the Air Force for almost sixty years. The town was once a major air force base and now houses three military installations: Oneonta Army National Guard Base, Oneonta Naval Aviation Station, and the nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The Air Force began providing service in Oneonta in 1912. At that time, the town was just twelve miles south of Utica and consisted of just over one hundred residents. By 1945, Oneonta had grown to over five thousand residents and had become one of the busiest air forces in the world. In 1951, the United StatesAir Forceactivated Three Mile Island Military Nuclear Power Plant which became known as Yankee nuclear power plant No. 4. This facility produced plutonium for use in nuclear weapons testing. Over time, the role of the Air Force in Oneonta changed significantly; from simply providing services to being both an employer and community leader. In 1969, following passage of The Civil Rights Act of 1964,the Air Force shifted its primary mission from providing wartime support to peacetime roles within the Department of Defense. As a result, Three Mile Island ceased operations as a nuclear power plant and instead became an exhibit at Wright-Patterson AFB where it remains today as part of their historical museum collection

They have received many awards for their service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some of the more famous Air Force members include those who flew in space shuttle missions or conducted combat against ISIS militants in Syria: Gen. Michael Flynn (former National Security Advisor), Lt. Gen Martin Dempsey (Commandant of US Marines), Lt. Gen Joe Dunford (Chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Staff), Lt. Col Jeffery Bock (Director of Central Intelligence).
The Oneonta Air National Guard has a rich history that dates back to the 1930s. The unit was founded on October 10, 1930 by Colonel John V. Macdonald and Lieutenant Colonel Harry W. Dunham as the "Oneonta Volunteer Infantry" in response to the need for an air force in New York City. The group became known as the "1st Aero Squadron" and served with distinction during World War II before being activated again in 1946 as the 1st Bombardment Wing. In 1957, Oneonta joined the USAF and was assigned to RAF Lakenheath until it closed its doors in 1961. The wing's mission was to provide strategic bombardment services for Allied forces throughout NATO. From Lakenheath, Oneonta flew missions into Germany, Belgium,Italy and Austria during the Cold War era. Today, Oneonta Air National Guard is a strong presence within our community and continues its tradition of providing quality service through aerospace activities such as flying planes, helicopters and drones; giving back to our local communities through philanthropy; serving our nation’s military members and their families with aerial refueling;and providing unique aviation experiences for students at local colleges
In the late 1800s, Oneonta was one of the most prosperous communities in upstate New York. The community consisted of a single block of wooded land that stretched from the Mohawk River to the town's outskirts. The small community thrived due to its natural resources, including coal and oil reserves that were used for heating and lighting purposes. The community had a large population until the early 1900s when it slowly lost its population due to diseases such as tuberculosis and influenza. In 1950, Oneonta was struck by an intense tornado which destroyed many homes, businesses, and churches. It is still considered one of the worsttornados in New York State history. Today, Oneonta is a ghost town with few people living there because of its lack of resources or accessible infrastructure. However, it remains an interesting place to visit because of its unique history and culture

The museum was opened in 1987 by then-Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger as a shrine to America’s airborne forces. It contains items from every branch of the service and includes uniforms, planes, equipment, tools, books, and memorabilia from various wars throughout history. NASA NASA has been responsible for space exploration since its establishment in 1958. They have sent people to orbit around Earth on three different missions: Apollo 11 (the first manned mission to land on another world), Skylab 3 (the first orbital launch vehicle), and Mars Pathfinder (the first human mission to walk on Mars). They also operate two other satellites called Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite(GOES)and imager satellite Global Positioning System(GPS).
The Air Force gift history began in 1947, when the USAF was created as a separate branch of the military. At that time, there were no formal thank you gifts given to service members. The first ever Air Force gift was an olive drab fedora.
Oneonta is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 1,658 at the 2010 census. Oneonta is one of the oldest towns in Chenango County and was established in 1788. The original home of the first settler, James Herritage, still stands today. Oneonta was laid out as a village on December 5, 1792 by Lt. Colonel Nicholas Tappan and Dr. George Washington Smith. On January 14, 1802, Oneonta became a full town and received its own government with Samuel Morse as its first Mayor and David Stevenson as its first Clerk of Court. The town was originally named after General John Montgomery (1724-1800), who fought against British forces during the American Revolutionary War at the Battle of Saratoga Springs on October 12th, 1777. General Montgomery's troops were later honored by being given the name "Montgomery Heights." In 1802, when Oneonta became a full town it lost its water supply from an incident where a millstream broke through a hillside into the village square and inundated most of what is now Oneonta Creek; however this did not stop local residents from founding numerous businesses including stores, wagon factories, blacksmiths and farmsteads in what is now downtown Oneonta Square In 1902-1903 Five Mile Dam was built across Oneonta Creek to provide irrigation for many agricultural fields that once relied onsprings running through or near Oneonta In 1951 Two Mile Dam was built across Oneonta Creek providing more water for Three Rivers Reservoir which provides drinking water for much of central New York City On November 15th 1957 a new bridge over oneONTA CREEK opened allowing easier access to Muchmore Road from downtown while providing pedestrian crossings over two adjacent creeks
Oneonta is the largest town in Chenango County, New York and the seat of Oneonta Township. The population was 20,017 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Schenectady-Albany-Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Oneonta was Nicholas, who arrived on a ship from England in 1664. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. The first post office was established in 1768 and named for Nicholas's son, Jonathan. In 1839, Oneonta became one of four towns in Chenango County based on the act of Congress known as "The Townshend Act." On May 5th, 1841, the township and village were consolidated into a single municipality under the name of Oneonta Township. On March 12th, 1846, Oneonta became an independent city with its own charter and mayoralty under the name of "Oneonta". On October 15th 1912 Two Mile Brook Dam burst open flooding much of central and northern Oneonta; parts of nearby Schenectady were also affected including Manyon which had to be abandoned for fear it would become flooded again any time soon; many homes were destroyed or damaged as well as churches and other important infrastructure such as roads (the damage total cost over $500 000). Despite some initial attempts by local officials to rebuild following this event what followed was more often than not standard government response to such disasters - promises given without actually doing anything to help those impacted: money being budgeted for rebuilding but never materializing; hiring contractors but often not having them live long enough to see any benefits; promises made about repairing infrastructure but never fulfilling them either partially or fully A memorial park has been planted near Manyon specifically commemorate this disaster
