Oneida is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of New York, United States. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. Oneida is known for its scenic beauty and its many outdoor activities including skiing, fishing,iking, and golfing. The first Europeans to visit Oneida were Jesuit missionaries in 1614. The community was founded by Pieter de Maria on February 26, 1747 as a post office named "New Amsterdam". In 1815 Oneida became part of the Erie Canal system when it was created from parts of seven other towns in what is now northwestern New York state. At the time of its incorporation into the United States as a city on November 15, 1898, Oneida had a population of 814 residents. With economic development during World War II andiscovernmental changes followingward (e.g., passage of the Taft–Hartley Act), Oneida's population quadrupled to 3,091 by 1960; while today's total has fallen to 1,717 people (2015), it remains an attractive place to live and work owing to its natural landscapes and strong educational opportunities. In 1912 Oneida hosted America's first international skating championships at Lake Ontario State Park with skaters from twelve U.S., Canada and Mexico countries competing in ice shows that wintertime.[3][4] That event also served as one of several local fundraisers for then-new First Presbyterian Church which had been built there after years of fundraising by Reverend John Rankin Tolman Jr.. By 1940 there were over six thousand people living in Oneida,[5] but during World War II much less than that number served in military or civil service due largely to wartime constraints on housing production;[6] nonetheless their sacrifices are commemorated each year on Veterans Day with parade through downtown streets carrying flags flown high honors from civic centers around town—a salute not given usually to civilians who did no combat or may have done so only incidentally (). Today’s attractions include a half dozen museums plus two new ones opened since 2000: an art museum affiliated with Yeshiva University [7]and Arapaho County Museum [8], located adjacent to lovely Arapaho Valley Regional Park across SW corner Post Rd/Old Road from village center just off Rte 9W about 2 miles ENE from entrance off Old Rte 9W just past White Sands Rd

There have also been deployments to Kuwait (2009), Bahrain (2010) and Qatar (2011).

Oneida is a small town in Upstate New York, located on the north bank of the Chenango River. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. Oneida is one of six villages in Schuyler County and the only village in Schuyler County that is not part of the Rochester metropolitan area. The first settlers to Oneida arrived in 1814, when David Herron and his brother James moved from their home on Delaware Lake to what is now Oneida. They named their new settlement after one of their ancestors, General George Washington Hill. In 1824, Governor John P. Morgan approved a plat for Oneida Township which included present-day Oneida and parts ofpresent-day Elmsford and Webster townships. The township was organized on July 6, 1825 under the name "Herron's Township". The first Post office opened at Oneida on October 20, 1830. In 1840, platted land was sold near modern day Rome for $10 per acre to Ezra Richardson who organized what would become known as Richardson's Corners Settlement which became a popular and successful agricultural community with close access to water resources and good soils for farming
Oneida is a town in western Upstate New York, United States. The population was 5,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oneida County, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name originated from the Iroquois word "onaha" meaning great league or extent. On April 12, 1777, General George Washington and his army reached Oneida on their march from Fort Erie to Niagara Falls. They were met by Native Americanrebels led by Sullivan and Cornwallis who threatened to burn down the fort if they came any closer. Washington called for reinforcements and ordered his men to withdraw into the woods around Oneida Heights. After hearing of this event, Congress passed an act on May 1st establish a military post at Oneida Hills in order to protect against future rebel threats and also provide grazing for militia units garrisoned there. On December 10th 1814, a detachment of US Marines under Commodore Isaac Hull arrived at Oneida Hills after being sent by Commodore Abel Perry to patrol along Lake Ontario's eastern shoreline in order to prevent British traders from smuggling goods into Canada via that route
