The first coffee beans were roasted in Olean, New York in 1848. The village was founded by Dutch settlers in 1795 and the first grocery store opened in 1849. In 1862, the first post office was opened in the town. The population of Olean grew to over 100 people by 1875. In 1922, the first bank was opened in town. By 1930, there were five churches and a dozen schools in Olean.

Olean is a small town in New York State. It was established in 1792 and has been the home of the Olean Mohawk Tribe since that time. The town is located on the border of Onondaga County and Chenango County. Olean's population was 8,871 at the 2010 census. The name "Olean" is derived from Otter Lake, which lies within the town limits. The Mohawks who lived in Olean for generations early fur traders and missionaries came from Lapanui or To'eha (near present-day Albany) on Long Island Sound. In 1614, with English explorer John Smith as their guide, some Mohawks led by Captain Samuel de Champlain sailed upriver to what is now Olean to trade furs with local Native Americans. The first settler in what is now Olean was granted a patent by King George III on January 20th, 1792. Reverend James Caldwell arrived in 1794 and began ministering to the community’s 1,500 residents. In 1807 Lieutenant-Governor Alexander Macdonald ordered an investigation into allegations of Indian theft of livestock near Onondaga Lake that year; settlers had earlier claimed this as their justification for killing two natives during an raids campaign they were conducting against native villages around nearby Cohoes Manor (now part of Auburn). After interviewing dozens of witnesses including several Mohawks who had participated in the raids, Macdonald found no evidence to support accusations made against any tribe other than those of Lapanui origin - only one individual had ever been charged with such a crime! In 1815 André DeGroot became head trader at Fort Oswego after arriving from Montreal with his family following the War of 1812; he soon developed close relationships with both locals and fellow traders in Olean village and took an interest in its development as a French trading post on Long Island Sound. In 1817 he married Anna Maria Poulin; together they founded DeGroot & Company saltpetre merchants based out of Schenectady where they operated until 1830 when federal regulations placed restrictions on saltpetre exports following tensions over American annexation of Canada ensuing the Mexican-American War In 1850 Revd Dr Caldwell moved his family back to live permanently among his people after purchasing 160 acres west side Of Main Street between First and Second Streets; here he continued preaching services until his death four years later at age 80 years old . He laid down basic principles that would continue through much religious turmoil throughout North America – unconditional love towards God above all others, concern for poor white laborers victims during slave rebellions etcetera…..He left behind many lasting legacy like: A Congregational church building still standing today [at] 432 Main Street built between 1861-1864], numerous schools across Upstate NY next door including SUNY Plattsburgh’s Saint Benedict School opened October 6th 1870 [and closed May 3rd 1974], Most recent addition being Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church complex consisting 5 stories high [opened December 10th 2006]…Today there are more than 2400 active denominations represented amongst gradeschoolers thru college students right here full stop!!!

The town experienced some growth and prosperity during the late 19th century thanks to its location on the Erie Canal and its importance as a transportation center. However, during World War I, Olean was hit hard by military service and economic decline ensued. During World War II, however, businessactivity resumed and there were efforts to create a veterans' community in the town. After the war ended in 1945, however,Olean began experiences rapid decline which accelerated during the early 21st century due largely to factors such as high unemployment rates and changing demographics. Today,Oleans struggling economy has resulted in it losing much of its historic charm including many old-fashioned businesses that have closed their doors over time due to competition from newer outlets or online sales only available through phone or internet ordering without having any physical presence within the town itself

On October 15, 1777, the first United States Constitution was ratified in Philadelphia. The document established a government for the new nation of America, with a Congress and President. On November 3, 1787, the first meeting of the Constitutional Convention took place in New York City to create a new Constitution. After many ballots and amendments were proposed, on July 14th, 1788, the final Constitution was ratified by all 10 original states.
