Ogdensburg, New York is a small town in upstate New York. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oneida County, New York, and Mohawk County, New York local governments. The village has an estimated population of 2,500 people as of 2019. The Village of Ogdensburg was first settled in 1785 by Loyalists from Canada who had fled British rule during the American Revolution. They named their settlement after General James O'Gdaniel (1746-1825), one of the few British officers to survive the Battle of Saratoga and subsequent Siege of Brooklyn Ferry on October 26, 1779. During its early years the Village was centered around a small schoolhouse which served as both a localschool and post office for residents throughout much of the 1800s. However by 1810 there were only about seventy residents living within what became known as "the town." In 1823 Chief Justice John Marshall gave his famous opinion in McCulloch v Maryland that when a new county or township is formed within an existing county or state it constitutes part thereof for all purposes save those specially provided for by law; this principle applied with equal force to villages and towns created within incorporated cities or towns where such municipalities had no corporate existence before their incorporation; accordingly in 1824 Congress passed an act providing for villages situated within incorporated cities or towns to be chartered under similar provisions to those applying to villages founded within other classes of Townships or Counties - with certain exceptions (see note below). The chartering process took many months but on November 3, 1824 Mayor Ebenezer Brown signed the charter which defined Ogdensburg as "a village seat [and] political center" for Oneida County until 1907 when it became part ofMohawk County following its reorganization into that area. As late as 1955 there were still some traces remaining from earlier days including a Methodist church built in 1868 and operated until 1951 however today's only remains are some foundations along Route 11A near Main Street which once served as home court facilities for local high schools including Oneida Central High School from 1922-2006 and now serves McCarty Middle School

Ogdensburg, New York is a village in Chemung County, New York, United States. The population was 1,724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was named for General James O'Gdenson and his wife Mary (née Steuart). The first settler in the Village of Ogdensburg was Isaiah Morse on May 25, 1814. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1818, John Armstrong established a mill here which became one of the leading mills in central New York. In 1825, George Washington Dodge moved to Ogdensburg from Seneca Lake and opened a grocery store here. In 1830-31, Philip Hine built a sawmill on the north bank of Mohawk River near present-day Main Street. This mill continued to be operated until 1840 when it burned down due to water damage caused by a storm that week. In 1841 Daniel Webster founded Webster's Ferry across the Mohawk River from Ogdensburg; it became one of the most important transportation arteries in central New York during this time period. In 1865–1866 Jephthah Bliss started an limekiln here at what is now Erie Canal Boulevard/Route 9 south of town; this kiln continued operation until 1904. Voters approved incorporation as a village in 1907 with 3,000 residents; however because of World War I hostilities there were only 1,197 residents who voted in favor at an election held on November 3rd that year One major event which took place during early Village history was when local school Superintendent Mrs Jane Purdy donated land for construction of her own schoolhouse which served as School #2 for many years before being replaced by Our Lady Of Mount Carmel High School located just east off Route 9 today . That same year also saw establishment of an ice cream parlor/confectionery store called "The Cream House" by Mrs Emma Muhlenberg who later sold it to Miss Addie Schroeder who ran it until its closure in 1951 . On December 10th 1917 Mr & Mrs Sidney Schwartz bought lot 6 & 7 North Main Street from Dr Geo Wurster for $1125 cash
