The name comes from Ogden (later spelled Onondaga) Manor which was donated by Ezra Cornell to the village in 1814. The first post office opened in 1827 and remained open until 1860. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 3,912 people, 1,569 households, and 993 families residing in the town. The population density was 596.7 people per square mile (239.6/km²). There were 2,028 housing units at an average density of 248.3 per square mile (1010/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 1%
