The New York Air National Guard's 192nd Fighter Wing is one of the most diverse and highly equipped air forces in the world. The wing has an impressive gift history, dating back to World War I. In 1917, when the New York National Guard was activated as a part of the newly formed American military, it consisted of just a few dozen airplanes and pilots. By 1918, however, the wing had grown to over 2,000 aircraft and pilots. During World War I, the 192nd Fighter Wing became known as "the Fighting Falcons". In late 1918, with America's entry into war against Germany, this unit was mobilized and sent to France as part of American Expeditionary Force (AEF). After participating in various battle scenarios throughout France and Belgium before returning home in early 1919, the 192nd Fighter Wing again became known as "the Fighting Falcons" upon their return to New York City. The wing played a significant role in support of Allied ground forces during World War II. It was initially activated as part of First United States Army on September 16th 1941 under command of General George Smedley Butler Jr.. With 1123 planes at its disposal at its peak in December 1942-January 1943 following attacks on Pearl Harbor-the 192nd FG contributed significantly to victory over Japan in that conflict. Postwar operations included aerial refueling for combat units fighting in Korea; aerial reconnaissance; providing protection for supply convoys moving through Japanese airspace; conducting bombing missions against targets inside Japan; participation in maneuvers throughout North America; and other assignments including Operation Neptune's Spear which led to Japan's surrender. After WWII ended, inactive duty status was granted to the 192nd FG on July 15th 1946 by Chiefof Staff General Henry Hap Arnold - making it one of only four wings within the USAF that never saw active service during hostilities (the others being Tactical Air Command's 8th Bombardment Wing (Hawks), Ninth Air Force's 315th Group (Eagles) and Twelfth Air Force's 515th Group (Pilots)). The reason given for this inactive status? "Inactivating due largely to lack of available personnel." However...it wasn't until 1958 when activation finally occurred for both training squadrons: The 191st FS(later 188th FS)Activated at Ramstein AFB Germany from Kelly AFB TX on September 25th 1958 after more than five years languishing inactive.' Today, there are nearly 3200 active Duty members assigned to our 192ND FW stationed all around our great state! The Ogdensburg Air Force Base gift history began in 1945 when the United States Air Force purchased an original military airstrip located near Ogdensburg, New York. The base was used as a training and storage area for new airmen until it was transferred to the United States Army in 1948. The base was renamed Fort Drum in 1957 and became an operational USAF airbase. In 1987, the USAF sold its portions of Fort Drum to the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD). In 1989, HPD opened the first housing development on Fort Drum property – MacDougal Towers. Ogdensburg, New York is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, located on the Mohawk River. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oneida County seat and was formed from parts of the former towns of Seneca Falls and Wheatland. The village was founded by Loyalist James Ogdensburg in 1784 as part of an effort to create a buffer between himself and his Native American neighbors. The area became commercial after Seneca Falls opened its borders to white settlement in 1814. The village's name comes from Onondaga Chief Ogden's advice that settlers should name their new villages after animals they would farm or northward-pointing hills they would overlook. Ogdensburg's economy changed significantly when canals were built nearby in 1825 and 1830 for transportation purposes; this led to increased trade with Buffalo and other cities along the Upper Great Lakes region. In 1868, Ogdensburgh annexed the neighboring town of Wheatland, making it one municipality with a total population of over 10,000 people. The Village reached its peak during World War II as many women entered industry to find work during wartime shortages elsewhere; however, following the war there was significant decline due to decreasing production values and demand for domestic goods resulting from technological advancements such as peanut butter production overseas. However, recent revitalization efforts have seen resurgence in business activity including restaurants, galleries, retail stores and art galleries among others; this has helped contribute to local economic stability since 2000 despite overall declines across all five Finger Lakes communities

Ogdensburg, New York is a small town in upstate New York, located on the Mohawk River. The population was 1,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Saratoga County, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village of Ogdensburg was founded by Dutch colonists in 1664 as a trading post on the Mohawk River. The name "Ogdensburg" comes from an Iroquois word meaning "place where there is snow." In 1814, the first newspaper in what would become Saratoga County was published in Ogdensburg. In 1825, General George Armstrong Custer and his troops fought their way through Indian resistance to reach the Canada–US border at Fort Erie on Lake Erie. After crossing into Canada, Custer's men discovered that they were not alone in this new land: they had encountered another American settlement called Oswego Junction (now Syracuse). Because of this find, Ogdensburg became known as "The Gateway to the Great Lakes". In 1827-28, local farmers began raising corn and other grains for export to Europe; soon enough, it became an important commercial center for area farmers. By 1830, nearly every family had their own home or farmstead within a few miles of downtown Ogdensburgh; by 1840 almost all residents spoke English as their primary language with some also proficient in French and Italian. A school was established in 1829 which served both local children and students from nearby villages such as Schenectady and Auburn; during its early years it functioned primarily as a means of indoctrinating new arrivals into mainstream society. A major cotton gin arrived here around 1850; due to its location near Albany Canal (the main transportation artery between Buffalo and New York City), mills produced large quantities of textiles for export throughout North America until shortly after World War II when most production stopped due to changes in technology and competition from imports From 1919 until 1951 women started working at local factories while men continued to fill many traditional factory jobs including machinists and welders
The town of Ogdensburg, New York was chartered on February 17, 1814 by the General Assembly of New York. The town was named for John Ogdensburg, an early settler in the area. Ogdensburg became a village on July 1, 1837. On January 15, 1850, the Village of Ogdensburg merged with the Town of Hazleton to form the new Town of Hazleton-Ogdensburg. On November 14, 1871, the Town of Hazleton-Ogdensburgh merged into the City of New York.
