In 1827, both townships were combined into one new township called Canajoharie-Waldenburgh with a population of 807 people; this increased when the section east of Buffalo Creek between Canajoharie Neck Road and Cedar Beach Road was annexed by North Tonawanda on March 14, 1830 (the last such annexation until 1969). The growth of milling industries during what isknown as “the great Western Gold Rush” led to an increase in population throughout Otsego County although there were no mills located within what is now North Tonawanda limits (although there are remnants thereof today including abandoned wharves along Baldwinsville Avenue).
