The New Rochelle Coast Guard Station was founded on November 15, 1881. The first commanding officer of the station was Captain John J. McCabe. The Coast Guard Station played an important role in coastal defense and rescue operations during the early years of the 20th century. In 1933, the Coast Guard Station moved to its current location on Governors Island in New York City. In 1951, a new tower was built at the station which is still used today as a headquarters for the Department of Homeland Security. Throughout its history, the Coast Guard Station has been Bearskinners! The station’s mascot is a bear that wears a black blazer and green dress shirt with red stripes running down each side. The bear has served as both an official symbol of the Coast Guard Station and a source of pride for residents in New Rochelle.

The New Rochelle Coast Guard Museum has a long history of giving gifts to the community. The museum first gift shop was started in 1967 and continues to be the center for gift giving for the Coast Guard Station, located in New Rochelle. New Rochelle, New York is a city in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 53,821 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Westchester County after White Plains. The name of the town was derived from a location called "Rochester" on the Hudson River. The first settler in what is now New Rochelle was Nicholas Webster who arrived in 1664 and named it for his home village of Rochester, England. He also gave the town its present name: Webster's Town (now part of Yonkers). The first person to build a permanent home in what is now New Rochelle was Nicholas Webster Sr., who erected a log cabin on the east bank of the Hudson River in 1710. John Woolridge built one of several wharves along what would become Main Street in 1714-1715 as part of his efforts to improve access to trade with Europe and bring new industry and jobs to northeastern NY. In 1812 President James Ketchum set up an armory on Columbia Road near where Broadway crosses Mohawk Creek and ordered local farmers to plant cornmeal instead of hay because he thought it would make artillery easier to find ammunition during wartime timeperiods. In 1830 John Sargent opened up a yarn mill on Columbia Road which soon became one of America's leading mills producing woolen Thread

From its roots in the early 1800s, the Coast Guard has grown into one of the world’s most comprehensive organizations. The Coast Guard is responsible for protecting our country’s coasts and waters, providing humanitarian relief, assisting with law enforcement operations, and conducting search and rescue missions. In 1916, Congress passed an act that established the Coast Guard as a separate branch of the military. At that time, it was thought that the Coast Guard would provide necessary backup during World War I when other branches were too busy. However, it was not until 1941 that the first jet-powered vessel was commissioned into service within the Coast Guard. In 2013, Congress designated September 17th through October 3rd as National Coastal Guardsmen Day to recognize all those who have dedicated their lives to keeping America’s coasts safe from harm. Today, there are over 11 thousand members of the Coast Guard working in ninety-six different countries around the world. The coast guard provides essential services such as Search and Rescue; Law Enforcement; Humanitarian Relief; Fisheries Protection; Disaster Response; Aviation Services; Marine Safety Programs; Search & Recovery Operations; Maritime Security Forces Commandantcy (MOSFC) ; homeland security programs including counterdrug activities ; maritime aspects of joint efforts with foreign partners ; coastal infrastructure protection including dredging and fill projects ; education programs related to oceanography , marine science , stewardship & coastal protection

New Rochelle, a small town in New York City, is one of the oldest and most influential communities in the city. The town was founded by Dutch colonists in 1624 and became part of New York City after the American Revolution. Over time, New Rochelle has become a cultural and social center for both the city and its surrounding region. Today, New Rochelle remains an important community with strong ties to its history and economy. The first settlers to arrive in what is now New Rochelle were farmers who arrived from Holland during the early 1600s. In 1624, two brothers named Hendrick van der Velde and Johannes Verstappen settled near what is now Midtown Manhattan on Long Island. They founded a farm called "Old Amsterdammersche Weg" which served as their home until they sold it to local resident Godfrey Knapp in 1629. In 1634, John Winthrop purchased land east of present-day Park Slope from Spain for $2 per acre. He named his new land "New Rochelle," after his old home in Amsterdam where he had lived while attending Harvard University. Winthrop's family resided there until 1714 when they moved to Chelsea on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. New Rochelle continued to grow rapidly due to its location at the mouth of the Hudson River and its access to boats that transported goods upriver into Manhattan Bay. By 1764, about 1,000 people lived in what is now New Rochelle proper (including 300 households of Englishmen). In that year, Captain John Smith landed at Old Rockville beach on Long Island opposite modern-day Greenwich Village after his failed attempt unsuccessfullyto sail up river from Staten Island to Manhattan through those dangerous waters known as The Strand (now simply called Battery Park).[1] At that spot lay what would eventually become Oneonta Avenue between 23rd Street south and 26th Street north (then undeveloped), now within walking distance of many downtown businesses including The Battery Museum,[2] The Roosevelt Hotel,[3][4][5][6] Yesteryear's Newsstand[7],[8][9][10] Gershwin Alley,[11],[12],[13][14]), art galleries such as MoMA PS1,[15],[16],[17],[18], Puckett Place,[19],[20]'s Argyle street' off 24th Street NW (now State Circle), elegant white brick homes like Great Mayflower House on Beacon Hill Road NW corner 3rd Ave., industrial sites like Morrisania Lumber Company warehouse/yards between 7th Ave./50TH StNW & 9Th Ave./Wakefield Rd., Wormley's Hardware store at 22ND St.[21]'s First Presbyterian Church,' crowded slums near 8TH Ave./W 34TH StSW', Riker's Grove Cemetery across 130TH StSE corner 2nd Ave.' – all within feet or easy reach of each other; today much less so! While some residents retained traditional Dutch values such as farmland ownership [19], othersigrated mainly among English-speaking Americans during this period – almost half of all recent arrivals were English speakers by 1825 living primarily in Brooklyn Heights/Manhattan Beach etc.[22].
